An alternative Serious Discussion
As the staff here have decided that they are unable to look after the Serious Discussion forum in the manner that they feel it should be handled, they have closed it.
There are, of course, many other forums on the Internet where such discussions take place, and anyone is free to join them for their politics kick.
However, in case people here feel that they would like to continue discussing serious matters, including politics, with their acquaintances in this forum, I have made a place where you can continue:
http://seriousdiscussion.cassland.org
This is my forum, on my server, in my house, and I shall moderate it myself (those of you who have visited http://forums.questionablecontent.net will have some idea of my style). It has no other purpose than this.
If enough people come, it could almost be a straight continuation from the forum just closed here; if no one comes I shall shrug and leave it to die.

Already there.

Come read EVA Sessions! This place has it, too! There'll be pizza! Not really! There are other things, too! Not EVA Sessions! Did I mention the pizza!?

Same. Should be interesting to see who makes the migration . . .

I hate myself. But maybe I can learn to love myself. Maybe it's okay for me to be here! That's right! I'm me, nothing more, nothing less! I'm me. I want to be me! I want to be here! And it's okay for me to be here! -- Shinji Ikari, Neon Genesis Evangelion
Yes, I know. You thought it would be something about Asuka. You're such idiots.

Not me I've already alienated too many people with my opinions on political topics.

If people misuse it, I shall deal with the matter. And no one is forced to join (any more than they were forced to post in SD here).

Re: An alternative Serious Discussion
Personally I think that this community just isn't up to the task of serious debates and that any project to try and accomplish that is doomed to fail miserably. But by all means, go ahead if you think it can work.

The phrase "self-fulfilling prophecy" is one to ruminate upon, methinks.

Signed, sealed, and committed. (So far, anyway.) Posted a lovely quote from a lawyer friend of mine explaining the 9th Circuit's decision in simple detail. (I'd post it on EvaGeeks, but I don't want to spark something here that the mods are trying to diffuse. If you really want to read it, it's available here on pwhodge's forum. If the mods want to allow me to post it somewhere in the off-topic section here at EvaGeeks, I'll be more than happy to do so.)

Just a small note, but posts on pwhodge's forum can't be read if you don't have an account there (probably a good way of keeping trolls at bay).

How Not To Behave --Staff SPOILER: Show
Yeah, fuck that forum. It's already filled with the usual suspects, and the chances of anyone who hasn't drank the socialist kool-aid joining are basically nil. Fuck it, I'm out. Enjoy your leftist circlejerk.

Re: An alternative Serious Discussion
I like the idea of this, but i think a moderation team that consists of people with more diverse views would be desirable. I'd volunteer, but i'm barely on any forums anymore.

Who joins is up to them; if some people wish to leave their views unrepresented, that's up to them, not the rest.
Moderation should not be about views, but about behaviour.

Re: An alternative Serious Discussion
I won't keep on advertising - it's up to anyone to come or not as they please. But each conservative-leaner who declines to come is helping to create a liberal enclave - just saying.
As I said, I moderate on behaviour, not politics, and I have the record to back that up.
Currently there is some discussion about what approaches can change hearts and minds; but it's harder to discuss this convincingly with only one side of the main divisions around.

Re: An alternative Serious Discussion
I feel guilty for having played a part in shutting down the last Serious Discussion, so I can't tell whether or not this applies to me.

Re: An alternative Serious Discussion
It's not aimed at anyone individually. But discussion between people who pretty much all agree holds no real challenge, and is not likely to go very far.
