Since Chee and IronEvangelion each have one, here's a CYOA of my own! It's been a while since I've done any sort of creative writing, so maybe this can be a decent outlet.

--

It had just been another day of training at Nerv HQ.

Asuka and Shinji were in the middle of a synchronization test. The two had been competing at quite equal levels, until something from the monitor distracted Shinji, causing him to lose focus. Lieutenant Colonel Misato Katsuragi, who'd been observing the test alongside Ritsuko and Maya, had received a call on her personal phone. Within moments she began pacing back and forth, until she finally stormed out of the room without saying anything. Shinji wondered what could have been so urgent.

"Ha! And once again, it looks like the winner is none other than myself. Really, why even bother taking these tests when we already who the best among us is." Asuka's boasting caused Shinji to snap out of his daze momentarily.

"These tests aren't intended to be competitions", Ritsuko's voice came over the intercom, "If it's too distracting for you, I can start scheduling each of you separately."

"And miss out on the opportunity to show Shinji how a real pilot does it? Where's the fun in that?" Asuka carefully gauged the Third Child's reaction from her monitor, but found herself disappointed by his dull, expressionless stare. "That reminds me. Why isn't Wondergirl here as well?"

"Rei had another appointment. Medical." Ritsuko stated.

"There's always something wrong with that girl." Asuka replied bitterly.

It was at that moment that the alarms starting going off.

"An Angel?!" Shinji cried.

"Standby while we figure out what's going on." Ritsuko was as calm and cool as ever. "Hm. Something's odd. Maya, can you please make contact with the bridge?"

"I'm trying, but nobody is responding!"

"How strange. And of all the times for the Lt. Colonel to go wandering off..." Ritsuko turned to address the two pilots over the monitor. "I'm going to need you two to stay put for now. Once we establish what the emergency is we can proceed from there."

"Stay put!? Last time we had to do that, I was stuck inside this damn test plug for over sixteen hours naked!" Asuka objected. "What was worse was getting recovered by a bunch of pervy guys in uniform. To hell with this! If it's an Angel, we're just going to need to get to the cages anyway, right? We should head straight there!"

"Something tells me this is something else." Ritsuko commented. "You should stay put."

"Arrgghhh! Say something Shinji, otherwise we're going to be stuck in here all day!"

--

Shinji, do you:

A) Agree with Ritsuko: "I don't mind staying here until we figure out what's going on."

B) Agree with Asuka: "We should go to the Eva cages and try to find out what's going on ourselves."

C) Find middle ground: "Can we at least get out of these test plugs?"

D) Other. (make something up!)

C). The ground isn't shaking, so it might not be an angel. But the tests are over anyhow, so let's at least get out of these entry plugs and go from there.

Sorry for the late update, but I promise I didn't drop this right away! ^_^

--

Kaji was standing in a quiet hallway that lay mostly out of the way of the usual foot traffic, casually sipping on coffee. Waiting. He could feel a stillness in the air, a rather uneasy one, like the calm before a storm. Normally he would have waited to see her, and perhaps he would have subtly brought it up in conversation, but Kaji knew that time wasn't on his side with this one. Not anymore.

"This had better be damn important. Unlike you, I actually have a job to do around here."

And there she was: Misato Katsuragi. Even when she was angry, she still was as beautiful as ever.

He composed himself. "Ahem. Hey there. How was breakfast this morning?"

"Cut the crap. What do you want?"

"So, no breakfast today then?"

She began impatiently tapping her foot.

Kaji sighed and glanced around. He then tossed his empty can of coffee into the recycling bin and leaned in closely to her. "A move has been made", he whispered. "The commander has been up to something lately, and the old men have started to take notice."

"Alright. What's new?"

"Ikari. What he's been doing lately is different than usual. Ever since he got back from his trip to South America, his behavior has been strange; he goes outside less, spends more time in the lower levels... There are these odd shipments being delivered in private to one of the deep underground facilities here in Central Dogma. I believe the facility is related to the production of the Dummy Plug, but I've never actually been inside to know for sure. "

"What's odd about the shipments?" Misato asked.

"It's probably nothing, but I managed to get a look at one of the crates before it went behind the door. I could be mistaken, but it appeared to be raw meat inside."

"...raw meat?" Misato seemed flustered. "Did you seriously call me in the middle of work because of this?"

Kaji shrugged. "Your guess is as good as mine. At first I thought I was being duped, that my position had been compromised, but Seele is concerned for some reason; they've been complaining about their schedule being off for some time and they're blaming Ikari. They suspect he's up to something and they're demanding answers. They want them now."

"Kaji, is there another reason you called me today?"

It was at that moment the alarms went off.

---

After exiting the test plugs, Asuka and Shinji joined Ritsuko, Maya and the several other Nerv employees that were present for the synchronization test. Maya was still attempting to get in contact with the bridge, but no connection had been made yet. The lines didn't seem to be down, so much as they were busy. Ritsuko was delegating to the other employees to find other ways of establishing the nature of the emergency in the meantime.

Asuka shrugged. "More than likely, it's just another Angel. What we should be doing is getting to our Evas. The longer we wait, the less of a chance we'll have at doing something about it."

Shinji didn't say anything. He knew better than to comment, lest he receive an earful from her. Instead he remained observant. Even though the alarm was still going off, everybody seemed so calm and collected to him, as they were each performing the tasks assigned to them without hesitation. Everybody had their place, knew where they needed to be, and could rely on one one another to do what needed to be done. Everybody was useful in some capacity.

But what do I do?

He found himself standing there, not really doing anything. Oblivious to the forces that be and the very situation around him, there he stood, waiting for instruction.

"I've got it! I've made a connection!" Ibuki cried from her terminal. On the end of the line was Hyuga, though no visual contact was established. As Maya spoke over the phone, Ritsuko huddled in closely to listen (Asuka closely behind, as nosy as ever; Shinji was slumping around a few steps back). "Hyuga, is everything okay up there?"

"We're fine here; but it's not looking good. We've got confirmation of a breach on one of the surface elevators. We're definitely getting hit alright."

"By what?"

"Target has yet to be identified; aside from the small explosion at the elevator entrance, nobody has reported anything. However, we haven't gotten any reports back from a number of posts in the lower levels."

"You don't possibly think the intruder has made it that deep so quickly..? And undetected?"

"Not likely. Aoba thinks the alarms have the people down in the basement spooked."

"Then have him follow up on it; we can't afford to take any chances. I want you to find out the situation with the entrance. We need to know if this is another Angel or not."

"Got it."

The phone clicked, and Ritsuko sighed: "Well, nobody has reported any giant, alien abominations in the Geofront, so that's a good thing." While she feigned relief, her mind wandered to the one Angel that infiltrated the headquarters in the form of a computer virus. An Eva would have no chance against something of that scale, and she wasn't so sure if they'd get lucky twice.

"What do we do then?" Shinji finally spoke up.

"This is considered a lockdown, so we stay put." Ritsuko stated.

"Stay put?!" Asuka whined again. "That's absurd. We're sitting ducks down here. Are we just supposed to let security handle this?"

"If there's an intruder, we would be even more vulnerable on the move. This room is safe and secure. If there really is an intruder, then assistance will be arriving from the Japanese military shortly."

"What about Misato?" Asked Shinji. Ritsuko remained silent.

--

Shinji, do you:

A) Agree with Asuka and attempt to regroup with the others on the bridge.

B) Agree with Ritsuko and remain put for now until further instruction.

C) Go look for Misato; she couldn't have wandered too far off.

D) Other.

C: Go look for Misato. She and Kaji have it too easy with all their combat training, they need some defenseless soft targets/dead weight to guard.

A) Agree with Asuka and attempt to regroup with the others on the bridge.

Shinji haven't spoken or agreed with Asuka on anything so far, so let's see how this will turn out...

Figure after a month I should just break the tie myself. Flipped a coin and it landed on A. Gonna try to make this one a shorter, more casual update to get the ball rolling again. Also, new character! Though, anybody who's RP'd with me before (years ago) might recognize what I'm going for. Also, I've planned out several threads for this story, so expect to see a lot of familiar faces soon.

---

After another moment, Asuka finally broke the silence. "Misato can take care of herself! Let's just go to the command center already."

Shinji looked at Ritsuko expectedly, and then to Asuka. He didn't particularly feel like waiting here for something to happen, but at the same time he didn't want to undermine Ritsuko's authority. Afterall, she was the adult in this situation. This made him wonder, however, what Misato would have said at a time like this.

Ritsuko let out a heavy sigh, and then with determination: "Ibuki!"

"Yes, senpai!"

"Please escort these two to the bridge. Make sure they get there safely and don't go wandering off. Kotonoha!"

"Yes, Ma'am!" A young adult male stood up from his station. His name was Kyoshi Kotonoha. He had dark hair swept over his forehead, and large green eyes.

"Please go with them and make sure nothing happens. Got it?"

"You got it!" One could tell by Kyoshi's demeanor that he was relatively inexperienced, yet eager to prove himself, and so he always accepted whatever duty he was tasked with. Afterall, he had to be a big brother to his younger sister.

Within a few more moments, the four had left the room and started making their way to the command center. The hallways were empty, which wasn't unusual, but coupled with the alarms going off made walking them particularly eerie. Most everybody was probably doing as Ritsuko had said, and were staying put because of the lockdown. Ibuki lead the group, heading straight for the nearest elevator to the bridge.

---

Meanwhile, Aoba was just exiting an elevator after having reached the lower levels. To his surprise, the main power down here seemed to be out, as he noticed that the alarms weren't ringing, and the auxiliary lights were now on instead of the main ones. He pulled out a flashlight, and began walking.

"It's always so damn cold down here." He muttered to himself as he shivered beneath his uniform. His breath could be seen caught in the red auxiliary lights.

As he kept walking down the hall, he began to wonder what happened to the power. These basement offices seemed so far removed from the front entrance, that he thought it impossible for the intruder to have gotten down here without anybody seeing or reporting anything.

Then he stepped in something wet. A puddle had formed on the ground, though in the red light he couldn't make out exactly what kind of fluid it was. It was thick, and trailing from one of the labs. "What is this, generator fluid? A leak might explain what's going on with the power, but isn't this the dummy production facility..?"

As he approached the door where the puddle lead from, he felt an uneasiness wash over him. He couldn't explain it, but for some reason he became increasingly nervous as her got closer to the door, and his breathing was getting heavy. With each step taken, his pounding heart was going faster and faster. There was something behind that door. He knew it.

--

Aoba, do you:

A) Open the door and find out what's inside.

B) Radio back to Hyuga on the bridge and report what you've seen so far.

C) Run away.

Usually when that happens in mine (which is a lot since I have an even number of participants), I'll just try to weave the two chosen answers together. Sure beats waiting for a tiebreaker. Also, mine is back up and running if you're still interested.

Anyhow, I'm going with:

B) Radio back to Hyuga on the bridge and report what you've seen so far.
