Recent Hauls 3: The quest for more stuff

Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

Got a Kiev 3a (Soviet Contax RF copy, pictured) from my uncle and then bought a Zorki 4 for about 25-30 US on ebay shortly thereafter. ^_^

Skil worm drive saw, 750ml of Crown Royal Black, and seasons 1-4 of Hogan's Heroes in a 19-DVD set. It's going to be a fun afternoon.

Image

I would have preferred a blu-ray set of Hogan's Heroes, but there aren't any as far as I know and this is better than nothing.
A worm drive saw is a contractor-grade circular saw that uses a parallel-mounted motor and special gearing known as worm drive to deliver extreme torque. With one of these you can stack 5 sheets of 1/2" thick plywood plywood on top of each other and cut them all at the same time.
Also, I just remembered this is the first time I've bought whiskey in 4 years. Here's a toast to 4 years of accidental sobriety! *Gulp* ...nevermind.

Aww, neither of you want to master the art of drunken carpentry? Just kidding, IronEvangelion doesn't condone the use of power tools by anyone who is drunk, stoned, or under the influence of oral sex.

Actually the whiskey and the DVDs are the only things in the picture I used this afternoon. The saw I got last week and used it for a small project already (It works great!), but I never had a chance to take a good photo of it until now, so I lumped it in with the other things. By the way, the picture quality on the DVDs is actually pretty damn good. The show is still in 4x3 aspect ratio of course, but each episode has been remastered to some degree. It looks like 480p resolution, which is pretty damn good for a show filmed in the mid-60s. $35 well spent.

Very nice. I've found often, 480p remasters look quite good indeed, and I'm a bit of a resolution snob myself. (1080p on up for hi def or nothing at all) but the magic that can be worked on quite old footage and how it looks at just 480p can be astounding.

My haul for this weekend came in the form of Vodka, Sake, and beer. (Vodka I bought myself, parents bought me the beer and Sake ) for drinking and online gaming shenanigans with friends. Since my birthday is on this coming Monday and I didn't take any time off, gotta celebrate somehow

I got the expected attempt at something useful as a retirement present from work - a crystal decanter, rather nice, but not really my taste, plus an Amazon voucher for the balance of their collection. Oh, and a T-shirt saying "I am currently away from my computer", which is rather neat given the circumstances.

However, one individual who had to miss the presentation gave me a present from himself; a big poster:

I'm actually envious, both of the friend who gets it and the poster. I haven't seen that particular piece before, and would have no idea how to track it down.

I guess this is where he got it:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manga-Anime-Evangelion-SECTIONS-SHIPPING/dp/B004XI26QQ/ref=pd_cp_201_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=19YFQX9GFFS0YJNTGZNY

Online, I've found a less blurred version than the admittedly poorly printed (but still impressive) poster:
SPOILER: Show

Also a different colourway (but much smaller):
SPOILER: Show

The background alone is widely available in several colour versions, and has been used with different characters in the foreground.

So this is a fan creation, then? That would explain why I haven't seen it!

So the fleamarkets of King's Day in the Netherlands yielded me the following vintage console lot:

- 1 PlayStation Model SCPH-9002, works, possibly modded (going by the marker on the internals)
- 1 PlayStation Model SCPH-7502, works
- SCART RGB PlayStation cable
- A bag with various video adapters (composite/component to SCART)
- Three memory cards, including an extra-large one.
- 1 DualShock Controller
- 1 third-party controller
- 8 games, unfortunately one of the discs is cracked, and another is disc one of a two-disc game. The discs are very scratched but the ones I've tried work.
- a bunch of CD-R discs with burned games that I can't get to work

All for 10 Euros ^_^ . I've checked online prices and a working PlayStation 1 (console + cables + 1 controller) goes for 30 Euros at second hand shops. So I got a great deal by the looks of it. I now also know that a mid-1990s console works fine on my LED TV, everything looks a bit pixelated but quite good nonetheless.
