Working on a Gainax Documentary

Hey all.

I'll make this brief: Over the past few months, a class I'm taking in College has given me a chance to work out a grant proposal of a 30 minute documentary on a topic of our choice, and I've decided to spend it creating a documentary on Gainax themselves. I'm doing everything I can to make sure I'm on top of things; I'm watching many Gainax shows I've never seen, I plan to search through many anime research books to find whatever I can, I'll be using resources that we've done and resources used in gwern.net, and I'm willing to contact anyone who worked in the studio (I'd love to get Carl Horn involved). Recently I just finished writing an outline of what exactly I'll be doing, and basically, all that's needed is approval from the teacher and teacher's assistance to write out a 8-12 page proposal of the project. If, by some miracle, I get money to make this happen, it WILL be made. If money never comes, I'll just use this thread as a grounds of sharing what I've been doing, as some kind of log in hopes that someone can help make it happen.

If you guys have questions or want to talk to me about what I'm doing (maybe you can help participate if you want), let's use this thread to work this out.

So that's why you've been watching all the Gainax shows recently! You should have told me!
Pretty interesting, I hope it'll get made. Proposal: Maybe you should try getting an interview with some key person from the golden days. Doesn't have to be Anno, but maybe someone else will visit a con in America - so it's totally feasible.

Have you watched Otaku no Video as part of your preparation?

Make sure to watch the Daicon op's too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQjruwkyOaU
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

Yup, I'm hopefully planning to include footage of the live action segments. I also have my eyes on the OTAKU documentary from 1994.
