So you guys have quite a following I must say! How come? You've been around for a while, but how do you get more people to become active? I'm on another forum, and we're just not really getting the attention I frankly think we deserve...
So is there a secret to it?

Social media, because everything is celebrated there, and money, because ad space on websites costs something.

Re: How to garner a large/active member base?
Some people believe in search engine optimisation; you need to do a certain amount, but I suspect it's overrated. History does a lot - when people see the forum they realise there's a lot of content to stay and explore (and the wiki too), so passing trade turns into regular custom, so to speak. Maintaining the forum as a reasonably pleasant and polite place also helps not drive people away. I feel that encouraging a strong off-topic community helps keep a place alive as well, though I know that a few people would prefer a more enclosed focus on the main subject - Eva.
