As I'm sitting here watching the much awaited and delayed release of 3.33 a thought has come to mind about Rei Q and her disposed clones. While she is bathing in the LCL tube just before Fuyutsuki invites Shinji to shogi, the power is restored. Anyone think this might explain the accumulation of Rei heads as they're nothing more than batteries for the reactor powering Nerv.
If anyone has posted a similar topic please inform me as I haven't been here in god knows how long.

Re: Is Rei Q a disposable battery?
I thought the power outage was a pretext for Fuyutsuki and Shinji to have a private conversation before the former went into an in-depth analysis of Rei and Yui's connection.

I assume that since a large, automated facility like Neo-Nerv HQ in inhabited by only five individuals, they don't keep the lights on in every room all the time. There might not even be active power in entire sections of the base. Maybe a generator needed time to boot up in order to restore power to the room Fuyu and Shinji had their conversation in.
The accumulation of heads reads "spare parts" to me. I'm surprised there weren't any arms or legs sticking out either.

Perhaps the bodies of all Rei clones collapse after a certain period of time, and (for some reason) the head is the only thing to remain

Re: Is Rei Q a disposable battery?
I really like that idea, and from the top of my head there's nothing I could hold against this thesis. I also like the idea that Fuyutsuki did on purpose to have time to talk to Shinji. I for myself never thought much about the power outage. I thought it was just a way to generate dramatic tension, and make it seem more like a stage play, which it certainly did. But if there's also an in-universe reason for it, so much the better.

Interesting theory. In NGE Rei has enough power to project an AT field, so it's not that far-fetched to imagine an improved version being powerful enough to supply the geofront with electricity. The real question is, what parts of Rei Q do you need to press to check her charge level?

Based upon abilities displayed, I'd say Rei III of NGE is more powerful than Rei Q. Especially considering that Rei Q doesn't seem to have the same soul at all as Rei II (whose soul is still trapped within Eva Unit-01), whereas Rei III of NGE's soul is a conglomerate of her previous iterations.

Personally I would love to see a plot twist where Yui's soul was kicked out of Unit 01 after Rei was pulled in and she now inhabits Rei Q's body, just have to make sure Fuyutsuki was wrong.

Alternate theory: Gendo was monitoring the conversation (after all, making Shinji go pas the Despair Horizon is vital to the Plan) and Fuyustuki made it so the power outage would happen to so the surveillance system would reset and give him some time to have a real private chat with Shinji. (maybe Gendo didn't wanted that Fuyutsuki mentions that Rei was a clone of Yui)

Seriously, that is the most fananked theory I've ever heard, more than Mari being Marty McFly travelling through time to keep her parents (Asushin) together. -- Jäeger

Fuyutsuki has stated to Gendo he's only following him for Yui's sake and the disclosure with Shinji about his mother, Rei and his father was part of "what you (Yui) wanted". I doubt Gendo would've stopped Fuyutsuki knowing his intentions to disclose information to Shinji, despite Gendo's disagreement, as the information Shinji recieves leads him down the path of dispair.
So if anything, it was beneficial for Gendo to let Fuyutsuki talk with Shinji.
I watch and speculate.
