Here's a little post EoE fic I've been working on...

Prologue

PROLOGUE

"Good bye, Mother," said Shinji with a shudder of longing in his voice.

In their collective vision within the intangible reality created for instrumentality, he floated upwards into the world of material existence in the hopes that her words, how "Anyone can be brought back to life" would actually bring forth the substance of truth so that humanity might one day join him again on the shore of reality. Meanwhile, as Shinji floated upwards into the shimmering glow of the Sea of LCL glistening in the bloodstained moonlight, he watched as his mother made a slow descent into the abyss below. Taking one last gaze at her son, she knew that all was well.

In reality, she was the one making an ascension was the home world, its moon, and sun all became obscured in the infinite depths of the cosmos. Looking at the three heavenly bodies become smaller and smaller, she was satisfied that the third retribution was finally complete. With its conclusion, her journey was just beginning. Even if it took her an eternity of aimless drifting, with Adam's Lance at her side and sapphire locks floating from her scalp, she would embark upon the greatness of the supreme knowledge that she had been seeking from the beginning. This goal, as she had now taken on the form of Lilith's shadow, was closer to being in her grasp than it had ever been during her Earthly tribulations. This moment in space and time was the apex of the tiniest seeds that had been planted so long ago. Now, a great and majestic tree, like the one that represented Life itself, had grown tall in mighty as a result of all the turmoil, sacrifice, and blood shed and she was its fruit. Inside the core of that Unit, as a soul in absolute isolation, she could only keep herself company. And so, her mind began to drift to thoughts on her former life.

CHAPTER 1

"You will go to that school, the one in Kyoto. Get his attention with a paper on these ideas..."

Before the aging man behind the desk could continue any further with his instructions, he began to violently cough.

Speaking between shortened breaths and aggressive hacking, he still attempted to speak.

"I am...so sorry...You see, the cure for the weak trappings of this mortal body simply can not...Can not come soon enough. But alas, this body is already damned to be...little more than a living corpse of rotting flesh held together by the will an aging mind and aided by machines of human design. As you know, I am going to be initiating my first round of prosthetic implants in a few months. Nevertheless, this physical shell, made artificial or not it is of no consequence compared to the greater designs that we have in mind. For we are more interested in the workings of the human soul and the apex of humanity's ultimate destination. But alas, the steps must first start very small in order to achieve great things... "

The old man lifted a withered and leathery hand holding a silk napkin to his mouth as he wiped a splash of blood that shot up from the back of his throat. Fighting his way through the wheezing, he regained the stability in his voice. Taking deeper breaths, he continued to speak.

"Now child, you will go to that academic facility. Seek out Professor Kouzo Fuyutsuki. He possesses a mind that will be of great service to the greater plan. You will make an impression by writing a formal research essay. Your proficiency as a writer are more than adequate for this task, correct?"

Finally, the slender young woman with short brown hair who stood before the old and dying man was permitted to speak.

"Yes sir."

"Excellent. Here is a list of some of the key terms that you will write on. Also, know this: You must absolutely commit to writing this paper in such a way that it contains nothing less than original research. Surely this work will bring him into our circle."

The old man cast a small smile across his face decrepit face which could be said to be death-made-flesh. His free hand picked up the print out and shakily lifted it in the air to give to the young woman. As she gently took the paper out of his frail fingers, he slid his index ever so gently like a feather brushing against skin for the smallest of moments against he silky hand. With the list in her possession, she quickly made a quick scan of some of the words and terms printed upon it:

METAPHYSICAL BIOLOGY
ARTIFICIAL EVOLUTION
GIANT (1st) IMPACT THEORY
PARTICAL WAVE MATTER
SCIENCES OF THE SOUL
PREMORDIAL ORGINS OF HUMAN LIFE
QUANTUM COMPUTATIONAL PROGRAMMING
THE PSYCHOLOGOCIAL PRINCIPALS OF THE EGO BORDER

"The wealth of knowledge that you gather and cultivate in this work will be the keystone to all that we have been striving towards throughout the centuries. Bringing in someone a bright as the Professor into our ranks will prove vital into bringing forth the next Retribution. Do you fully understand what your objectives are and the means by which to accomplish them?"

"Yes sir."

"One last thing to take note of child. You are absolutely not, nor ever will be, a scientist. You are a child of purity who must never be corrupted by the lust for power that comes from seeking knowledge beyond man's understanding. In other words, the discoveries you make are not merely yours for the keeping, but must always serve the goals of the greater design. Is that understood?"

"Yes sir."

"Very well then, you are dismissed."

CHAPTER 2

The only thing that now resided beyond the scope of what Yui Ikari could perceive was the well being of the planet as well as her son. As she slowly floated towards Mars, she wondered if he was alright. She recalled asking him if he was going to be, but she couldn't really be sure if his newly found sense of being would hold together in the new world he would have to face. And what of the others? Would they be able to will themselves back into their physical forms whilst manifesting into this now alien world of the Post-Third Impact Earth? If they did come back, how would they greet her son? Would they try and form new bonds through the kinship as "survivors?" Or would they despise and revile the very thought of him armed with the possibility of coming back knowing full well that it was his assertion of will that had brought about the final phase of their destruction and left the world in ruin? These thoughts came in bits and pieces as Yui's own mind was changing in how it received reality. Indeed, it was augmented through her continued existence outside of her own form and within this half of Lilith. It had been fragmented process that brought forth a kind of awareness that she hadn't been able to control before. But, she had been able to attain some semblance of control so that this biomechanical abomination of a body was more fully aligned with her own consciousness. This miracle of self-awareness had come about even without the benefit of her child's presence to bring forth synchronization and the bouts of "Berserker" that she had been able to manifest her will through. All throughout, the "human ways" in which was used to think were slowly shedding away like some many layers of unnecessary clothing impeding the sight of the full naked beauty of her truest form of existence. This had been most especially true since the time of her awakening...
