It reminds me of a Freedom Writers movie, when one of the students reading Anne Frank's dairy asks the teacher "when will Anne kill Hitler".
Another jaded man.

Which reminds me of another possibility. What if Gendo commits suicide?
Life can seem a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It's never easy when so much is on the line.

Gendo's plan for Instrumentality will be carried out, and Shinji will have his final conflict and resolution with Gendo and his offer of a painless life within Instrumentality. When Shinji ultimately rejects Gendo, having been given the strength of hope from the people he loves and the allies he didn't realize he had, Shinji will emerge back into reality to join the rest of mankind, while Gendo will alone remain in the void to fulfill the allegorical suicide of Instrumentality.

Even Fuyutsuki will join again with mankind. It has been foreseen.

This is only assuming that Gendo's Instrumentality is similar enough to NGE's depiction

Aren't all the claims in this thread based on assumptions?
