Peanuts Movie (2015)
Teaser Trailer and USA Today Info
From what I've read up on, this should be a cute and faithful adaptation. Makes me a little sad those live action Garfield movies weren't good.
Any Peanuts fans plan on checking this out?

That was cute. I was disappointed by the Garfield movies and new cartoon, Garfield and Friends was the best adaption, in my opinion. I think I might be biggest fan of the fat cat on here, I love him and Sailor Moon.

Ah, I can not emphasize enough how important Peanuts was to me as a youth. To this day, when I look back on it, I see how it has influenced my own attempts at art. That being said, I'm not sure how it would fare as a feature length film, especially since Charles Schulz is no longer alive, even if the creation of the film is still being handled by members of his family.

I almost cried when that theme came on. Peanuts was a huge part in my childhood.
This film will be a nostalgia landmine.

Peanuts has fans?

Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

YES.
At first I was worried when I saw that BlueSky Animation was working on it, but then trailer quickly reminded me that they generally are pretty good at recreating certain visual aesthetics from cel-animation and intreating them fairly well with their CGI.
I’m just not sure how I feel about the CGI itself. It looks so odd, perhaps like an uncanny valley between cel and CG animation.
So, I guess it really hinges on the writing. If it’s simple enough and not full of fart jokes, then I think I might like it. We’ll see what happens.
I have been a big fan of Charles Schulz's art and writing style since I was a kid. Visiting his museum in California (which is, of course, completely positive) and reading David Michaelis' biography (which is brutally honest, in places, and deeply human) helped to reinforce that. He's perhaps the classic example of the post-war self-educated man.
I was under the impression that all new animation and art up to this point has been based on strips he had already done. I'm cautiously optimistic. The trailer seems to mostly embrace the same minimalist art style he used, but I don't know how it will hold up in 3D. The writing -- well, there's a lot of Peanuts fans out there. Who knows. It's a huge jump for Craig Schulz's career; same for his son Bryan Schulz. The other writer, Cornelius "Neil" Uliano, is quite young and has never written a feature film before. That might be a good thing; Peanuts might work better as a series of short sketches, and the crew won't be bringing long careers to the film, wanting to put their own imprimatur on it.
This is Jean Schulz's thoughts on the writers, from her Reddit AMA.
Anyway, the place to be is probably http://www.reddit.com/r/peanuts.
Try the strips from the '60s and '70s, especially in their historical context. If you only encountered what he was writing in the 1990s while growing up, it could be off-putting as he had really lost some of his subtlety.

Should be a cute film as long as they stick true to the nature of the comics.
I just fret that they'll overload the film with pop culture references - thus betraying the kind've timeless nature of the comic - & celebrity voices - I.E. Brad Pitt voices Snoopy & Matt Damon voices the little yellow bird in a dream sequence where they talk.

Starting to see a bit more attention in the media; a nice retrospective article on Peanuts' past and possible future.
In Japan, you can go shopping in "Snoopytown" stores, which is pretty telling. (They have some neat Japan-only merchandise, though, I have to say).
