"It is happening again." - Twin Peaks back in 2016
David Lynch and Mark Frost just confirmed that TP is coming back to Showtime in 2016! I'm so glad I checked out that show only a couple years ago...I haven't had to wait a quarter century for them to properly finish it!!!!
So far, it looks like it's gonna be a 9 ep series with Lynch directing all the episodes himself.

Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

I wonder if it will be 'Lynch telling a story with some restraint imposed on him by the producers' or 'Lynch going batshit crazy with no checks on his power' because I'd be interested in the former but I've never been a fan of his more...eccentric works. In my opinion, Lynch works best if he remains grounded in reality.

It is gonna be on Showtime after all, so already that lifts a metric TON of content restrictions away from what the original show had when it was airing on ABC.
EDIT: also, I believe that article mentions that the exec at showtime now was one of the execs for the original series on ABC. There's also another exec at Showtime that's a big fan, so that would point to them being on board with virtually whatever Lynch + Frost decide to do.

Keep in mind that Mark Frost is also cowriting it. I have high expectations.
Season 3 of TP is now in my top 5 Things To Live For
"The will to lose one's will?"
"Absolutely. The will to make oneself completely free. Will is the wrong word, because in the end you could call it despair. Because it really comes out of an absolute feeling of it's impossible to do these things, so I might as well just do anything. And out of this anything, one sees what happens."--Francis Bacon

Had this happened in 1995 I'd be very hyped. As it is I am hyped but also feeling very unsure about how things are going to turn out in terms of quality.
So in other words Dune is his best film.
Honestly Dune (and Twin Peaks telly in season 2 but see where that got us) aside reading production history on Lynch films betray extremely little outside control, for good or bad. I guess Elephant Man would be his next most "controlled" production but even here there's no hints of much control as e.g. elephant rape shows. Great film regardless.
Also implying Eraserhead/Mulholland Drive/Inland Empire isn't triptych of surrealist filmmaking.

I am so pumped for this. I've been ready for season 3 since I finished the second season in 2007.
I'm glad it's on Showtime, so Lynch can do whatever crazy shit he wants. However, I hope he doesn't make it too dark like Fire Walk With Me. I'd prefer he try to keep it more akin to the tone of the series, with it being campy and cheeky and playfully skirting around taboo subjects. That's one of the major charms of the series.

So...the continuation of Twin Peaks might not actually end up being directed by David Lynch.
I really hope this is just him playing hardball with Showtime's suits and that everything will right itself and continue forwards, because honestly, Twin Peaks without Lynch's directorial involvement is simply not Twin Peaks.

Lynch just said that he's not going to be directing the Twin Peaks revival because Showtime isn't offering him enough money to execute his vision of the show.
Meanwhile, a recent statement from Showtime reveals that this is surprising news to them and they really want him to remain on board and are still trying to iron things out with Lynch's reps. Hopefully some type of compromise can be made because Lynch IS Twin Peaks much the same way Anno is Evangelion. It wouldn't be the real deal without their involvement.

^My question really is how much money DOES he want, what does he need it for and why aren't they giving it to him, since Lynch is the real crowd-bringer here and the show's revival wouldn't make half as much money without him.
I am very pissed at this, although Lynch sounds sincere enough that I can't really hold it that much against him.

^Yeah, I didn't really watch Season Two after 'Lonely Souls', I just saw the last episode, then Fire Walk With Me, then just went back over everything.
It would be a very weird marketing campaign, though, since it would basically mean telling fans not to watch the show until they can somehow work things out (although it is drawing some attention over whether or not Lynch will concede, which grows more and more unlikely).

All is right with the world. Lynch is back on the project and Showtime now says there will be even more than the 9 originally announced episodes. Lynch will direct all of the episodes himself.
Looks like they finally gave him a more healthy budget.
