The original NGE series gave us insights on the background scripts that governed many of the characters lives. One pattern that we saw come up several times, and also a common psychoanalytic life script, was "don't be." This was a life script Asuka operated under, which likely developed when she discovered her deceased mom.

I find it pretty cool that in the Rebuild, just as Asuka was feeling relaxed, comfortable, and not overarchingly-confident, she is hit with a terrifying event. Funny enough, this exact event - the angel infecting her entry plug - would probably cause her the same branch of scripting from the previous series: "Don't be (happy?) (open about your emotions?) (vulnerable?)"

I wonder if this was the reason for her emotional coldness in Q. Aside from the possible angel contamination from the previously-mentioned event, maybe the punishment reinforcement from it also solidified a script that basically pushed her to be less trustworthy with everyone in her life.
