Trailer for the new documentary about Studio Ghibli over the course of one year as Hayao Miyazaki & Isao Takahata put together their newest (& possibly final for both) feature films.

Stick around for a quick glimpse of a certain Japanese anime director presumably there to do some voicework.

Feature is released at IFC Center in NYC next Friday (November 28) & goes to VOD on December 9th!

I saw this a few months ago and absolutely loved it. A must-see for both Ghibli fans and anime consumers in general.

"No you wouldn't. Oz's secret is he goes without food to buy that stuff. He hasn't eaten in years." - Brikhaus

"Often I get the feeling that deep down, your little girl is struggling with your embrace of filmfaggotry and your loldeep fixations, and the conflict that arises from such a contradiction is embodied pretty well in Kureha's character. But obviously it's not any sort of internal conflict that makes the analogy work. It's the pigtails." - Merridian
"Oh, Oz, I fear I'm losing my filmfag to the depths of Japanese pop. If only there were more films with Japanese girls in glow-in-the-dark costumes you'd be the David Bordwell of that genre." - Jimbo
"Oz, I think we need to stage an intervention and force you to watch some movies that aren't made in Japan." - Trajan

Yeah it's top tier stuff. Really interesting look at Miyazaki's character and philosophies in particular. Then there's also some fun Anno stuff in it.

Takahata was technically supposed to be presence in the film but he hardly appears.

Watched it this morning after renting it on iTues - it's just $5.

Loved it! An insightful & great documentary from start to finish! Plus I was happy & surprised that so much time was actually spent with Hideaki Anno. I merely expected him to show up for like 3 or 4 minutes but he was a continual presence throughout the last two thirds.

Excellent doc!

Why must all the things end?

Man, I really shed a tear near the end. Anno was fun (didn't seem depressed at all, although it seems to have been shot around the time Q was released?), Takahata was this enigmatic figure that somehow did nothing but affected everything and Suzuki kept the machine going. Really interesting and beautifully shot. I just love the last shot where Miyazaki heads towards the camera, it seems he takes a turn but then deciding to march on relentlessly. All the while little children followed him.

Must watch for everyone who likes Ghibli or appreciates Animation in general.
