"NGE is like a perfectly improvised jazz piece. It builds on a standard and then plays off it from there, and its developments may occasionally recall what it's done before as a way of keeping the whole concatenated." -- Eva Yojimbo
"To me watching anime is not just for killing time or entertainment, it is a life style, and a healthy one too." -- symbv
"That sounds like the kind of science that makes absolutely 0 sense when you stop and think about it... I LOVE IT." -- Rosenakahara

I guess saying James Cameron is Anno's counterpart in the Hollywood film industry is as good as any. Both men take their time when creating a new film & they have a hard fetish for military machinery.
Plus, they're both - sadly - a rarity in their respective mediums for having an appreciation & love of strong women. Not just hot women who can kick ass in hot pants but actually be strong characters in general. Though I feel Anno does the better job at making his female characters fully developed (not that way pervs), well rounded characters who exist as individuals with their own private lives removed from the male protagonist.
