Official OST site out, some sample tracks that weren't on the Youtube/Nico Nico videos but nothing new from the show proper so far. The very last track before it loops might be new (from Disc 2 spoilers, I'm guessing).

I might order the OST from CDJapan or just iTunes depending on availability after Christmas. I'd assume it'll be on iTunes since other SM-related OSTs have been there recently.

Mako-chan on the upcoming Vol 4 BD cover. Can't wait for Minako! Hope Artemis will be with her too.

I know, the joke is getting old. But what were the designers thinking, when they drew her hand? They should accept, they are not in the right show to draw with expressive style.

lol

Talking about lol, the latest Episode had me laughing a couple of times. Such wonky drama it just cannot pull off due to the lack of personalities to care for. The funniest part was the short mass-hysteria after the princes have been wiped out. Also some of the growling from mean Calcifer was also pretty funny.

Overall, this weeks instalment did not disappoint.

Well, that particular development appears to have been a literal dead end. Somewhat disappointing - they had their chance to make this very different from the manga but they torpedoed it.

Whatever.

URGH.

Due to spoilers  SPOILER: Show

At least I'm not the only one who's salty about this.

And they removed Rolling Heart Vibration!! We've only been waiting about 20 years for a proper anime-version of the manga, no big deal. :irked:

Ok so what exactly my gripe is with this episode?

1. They stole Venus' role in defeating Beryl and she was perfectly suited for taking down Metalia's Dragon as she was leader of Senshi. Instead they once again going "Main Character is the only way"

2. Usagi wailing "Mamo-chan!" waaaay to much for a single episode.

3. Beryl's death heavily toned down with destroing her necklace instead of stabbing.

4. Her motives born from unrequited love, were almost handwaved with a few seconds of flashback.

5. Generals... That. Was. POINTLESS. I mean, they survived till now for... What? We've been told that they and Senshi were in love in previous life. And that's it. We got NO developement based on that love, NO additional actions they could take since they were instantly rebrainwashed, and NO actual effect they could have on Senshi since even when they were instantly vaporized when they got healed and after spontanous burst of tears, Senshi just moved on a few seconds later.

They survived this long for ABSOLUTELY NO PAYOFF. They made completly zero difference for anything and anyone. A total waste of potential without even trying.

100% right! That's exactly why I'm so upset: because this IS such a crucial episode that couldn't afford to be screwed up, but it was. "Great ideas, poor execution", to quote another forum.

And so much for Crystal Act 10's new line "I'll never be a tragic princess again"... :sigh:

EDIT: List of changes from the manga to the episode here for the curious.

Funny how I never understood why people get so upset when their favorite book/TV show/etc is "screwed up", but now, I finally do. I'm starting to get paranoid that FINAL will be shit. :(

Ah smell that disappointment in the air, this is why i stopped watching it weeks ago and did a re-run of the older version instead.

I had kept my previous post toned down because of the major SPOILERS potential and because I didn't want to get anyone set off, but now it looks like I'm far from the only one who was disappointed. Stillborn's post pretty much summed it all up.

The time seems to be right for a serious deconstruction of the series, and a look at how the show could really mature and come to an end meant for adult audiences.

Don't worry, SSD, that's in the hands of a genuine master, not a bunch of hacks. Everything in FINAL will go according to Anno's scenario. :gendoscheme:

(Act 12 spoilers ahoy, of course.)

Uh... Wow.

Wow.

:uhh: I had a completely different reaction to this episode from what's been expressed here. This one time, I decided for some reason to check out the latest posts before commenting. I'm glad I did, so that I know how to couch my reactions appropriately.

Speaking as someone who's never read the manga, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. This episode in particular was a jaw-dropper for its content because remember, I've only ever seen the original TV series, and I remember it poorly at that. I was expecting, at some level, this episode to end with a return to some status quo.

To me, Queen Beryl's death and the revelation of her history towards Endymion came completely out of nowhere. When that flashback was happening, my feelings of the moment reversed quickly, and I actually said out loud "This is fuckin' tragic". So to everyone else who's saying it was cut down to something inconsequential... Well, for me, unlike for everyone else for whom the "Queen Beryl as character with feelings worth considering" meter went from 120 to 100, mine went from 0 to 100. I never knew about this stuff, so even what little time was devoted to it (which felt sufficient given the overall pace of the episode and previous episodes) had the desired effect upon me.

I also had a completely different reaction to the senshis' reaction to the deaths of the princes. When they started crying at all, my first thought was "Uh oh, somebody's probably gonna complain about stereotypes" so when they said "Now's not the time for crying" I thought to myself "Yep, that's how it should be, now really isn't the time for crying. Good on you, writers/directors". I was reminded of an analysis of the casual feminism of some sci-fi author whose female characters typically broke down only after the situation was resolved, instead of becoming crying wrecks at the most inopportune times. And as we saw mere moments later, even that little time that they took to weep ultimately cost, well... everything.

So, needless to say, I thought the episode was fantastic. Things kept happening that I totally thought would not happen, and by the end of it I was staring in disbelief because I just didn't think a show for little girls (that is what this is, right?) would go there. I thoroughly expected Usagi to sway Endymion's heart just that easily and save everyone with Moon Healing Escalation, not cut him the fuck down and then kill herself. And yeah I still expect this all to end well and would be genuinely unhappy for that particular expectation to be defied, but the fact that the story has even gone to these depths and made it actually credible that it might end poorly has captured my interest in a way that the TV series I remember never did.

View Original PostStillborn wrote:1. They stole Venus' role in defeating Beryl and she was perfectly suited for taking down Metalia's Dragon as she was leader of Senshi. Instead they once again going "Main Character is the only way"

I expressed concern in my reaction to a previous episode that the series was becoming a little too focused on Usagi, but this part I didn't even notice. Having not read the manga I had nothing to compare it to to notice that anything had been "stolen" so I didn't notice anything amiss about what she was or wasn't supposed to have done.

2. Usagi wailing "Mamo-chan!" waaaay to much for a single episode.

Honestly didn't notice this whatsoever myself, but there's a lot of things that other people find annoying that I never have. (Likewise there's plenty of things I find annoying that nobody else even notices.)

3. Beryl's death heavily toned down with destroing her necklace instead of stabbing.

It had a completely different effect on me: It made her death as a result of it a subversion of expectations, which was appropriate because I had not been expecting her death at this point in the story at all. I was expecting a particular trope and this gave me a chance to go "Wait a minute, is she actually dying? That wasn't a nonlethal maneuver? HOLY SHIT".

They survived this long for ABSOLUTELY NO PAYOFF.

At this point I'm expecting the payoff to come later, when it's all over and everyone has time to cry about what happened.

Oh come one... How could you not know what will happen? Destroing magic trinket always kills the witch/wizard/whoverer pacts with devils since... ever XD

As for Generals I'm starting to believe, they changed the scenes only for marketing purpose.

Their survival and delayed death, changed absolutely nothing plot wise, but they were on screen long enough, to be recognized as characters in toy/sticker/whatever line, by fan(girl)s. :uhh:

All too likely.

I was hoping that they would take things a little differently from the
SPOILER: Show
Black Moon/Chibiusa arc
- like say, introduce Uranus and Neptune early - but it looks like it's not going to be the case at all. Pity.

If you remember the manga, we have

our Guardian of Time, Sailor Pluto (Diana will appear too, instead of late ala the SuperS anime!)
who has a very big role in the story... Also, spoiler-tagged certain parts in your post, just for people who don't know the upcoming surprises.

Aww man, since it's now official about what's coming up... Trailer for Black Moon arc starting January: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7q-rU8s9HCY

Pluto sounds sexy, and Chibiusa sounds cute. They match the original seiyuu nicely, I think. Sailor Pluto = Ai Maeda, Chibiusa = Misato Fukuen.

Black Moon arc has me excited for the series again. My problem isn't Toei changing things from the manga, I just want those changes to be implemented well is all!

Once again they're changing the seiyuus, I think this the biggest mistake along with the changing of the opening. Considering they wanted it to be catered for old and new fans, this is probably why it isn't doing so well, a balance of old and new usually does well plus no explanation for the replacements is what's bugging me.

When they get to S and if they replace Megumi Ogata as Uranus I'm gonna be pissed.
