We have a whole thread titled "Did Anyone Actually Like FLCL?", which rather answers that question.

It's a very cohesive and well directed coming of age story, I adore it. I've met my share of people that it just doesn't click with, though. Maybe you need to watch it as a teenager.

I really enjoyed that show. But I don’t have it in my collection. If you want to see wackiness in 6 episodes worthy of my collection, watch Garth Marenghi's Darkplace.

When did so many foreign-landers get into British cult comedy shows? I can't even find people here who're aware of them. It can only be a good thing.

American hipsters would answer with “I did before it was cool.” I saw this particular show last year and I immediately fell in love with it.

I know your response was "wackiness in 6 episodes", but if you haven't seen The Mighty Boosh then I'd suggest you do. It also has Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade in there somewhere, and I personally prefer it to 'Garth'.

Fans of Matt Berry and/or Rich Fulcher should check out their Snuff Box.
Weirdest comedy I've ever seen. I love it.

FLCL is in my top 10 fav anime so...... yes.
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

I enjoyed it. I own it on BD. I don't love it. I still enjoy it. I don't think it's some kind of masterpiece. I personally find most good anime is overrated by the fanbase.

I tossed a lot of I's into this post. I did.

I.

FLCL for me, is a very special show. I first discovered it on Adult Swim around the age of 13 or 14. (Only
a few years older than Takun!) I think saw the 5th episode first so I was even more confused
than most. Thankfully it would be replayed for years to come and I watched the series from start to
finish many times. Being around the same age as Takun when I saw it helped me connect more with him.
Along with Naota, I was also transitioning from a child into a teenager - So the story about growing up really resonates because not only did
I grew up with FLCL, FLCL also grew up with me.

and don't get me started on the music!

I genuinely love how good Evangelion hurts

I feel a regular need to watch both Tsurumaki/Enokido OVAs (FLCL and Diebuster). Both works have some sort of therapeutic effect on me. When I watch them, I feel like I'm "bathing" my senses. The settings are very immersive and atmospheric in a way I can't well describe. The visuals, music, and surrealism comes together in just the right way. Need it be said, I do think FLCL is the superior of the two.

I don't feel an incredibly personal attachment to FLCL, though. My appreciation is probably a bit more... abstract. I don't quite know how to put it into words.
