Oh yeah man, that bit is awesome. That riff is fantastic stuff.

Well, ordered the split LP this afternoon, too bad it won't be out for another month

Thankfully, my copy of the reissue of "Pipe Dreams" will be coming soon.

I know that I'm a couple of months late, but the new Protestant album still rips. Fans of any type of heavy music should check them out: Forfeit.

Sounds good: I've been out of the metal scene for so long I have no idea what's good anymore. I need to reacquaint with my roots.

speaking of late on the curve (and st the opposite end of the spectrum from metal), has anybody heard this song from Hozier? I'm calling it 'Take Me to Church,' but I have no clue that the actual title. I do know that it's moody, dripping with soul, epic and simple at the same time, and possessive of some of the best damn lyrics of heard the song in a long time.

I think it's been out for a couple of years now, but I've just started hearing it on the radio.

I mean, look at this chorus:

Take me to church,
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your light,
I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife,
offer me that deathless death,
Good God, I will give you my life.

Not gonna lie, I flip my s*** and belt this tube whenever it plays.

So a guy friend got me into the Beatles and some stuff by John Lennon recently. Surprisingly I love it and it's a nice break from my usual jpop and Disney soundtracks.

OK.

I'm upset.

I really feel like "HEY, IT'S A RED LIGHT" should have turned into a meme.

But then I realized that I can't think of anything funny that could become of it.

Oh well.

Michael Jacksons Man In The Mirror EPIC MOVIE TRAILER VERSION.

I love covers of older songs done in a darker style. They turn something poppy and okay, into something really inspiring and epic. It seems a lot of people are doing that lately. From Lordes cover of "Everybody Wants to Rule The World" to the new Far Cry Four Trailers epic Orchestral version of "I will Survive'. It seems a lot of people are reinterpreting past works and making them their own.

Gah! How long have you been lurking there?

It never fails: mention the Fab Four, and the Beatle Maniacs come a knockin'.

Well, high school hath returneth, or at least it must have, because I've been listening to a lot of Orgy recently. Do they even exist anymore? Are they still a thing?

Including one who was around to buy some of their albums on the day of release.

The whole album is just as intense and weird as the opener, it's awesome. Honestly though, whilst Still is my favourite Ceremony record, they're a band I definitely reckon has gotten better with each subsequent release (not a sentiment I initially had when they first started "progressing") - and each release also getting more catchier/popier. Check out the lead single from their latest, Zoo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIrEcxvOzYI

You'll also recognise the track if you've played GTAV...

Oooh, I'm jelly. I have a couple of their albums on vinyl (plus all their studio albums on CD :P) but not with any extra goodies. I did get a copy of Wings' "Venus and Mars" that had everything (a bookmark, some stickers and a fold-out poster) intact kind of shoved into the sleeve. Not bad for a dollar

But yeah, what I'm listening to lately: (besides the Beatles)
-"Rumours" by Fleetwood Mac
-"Heritage" by Opeth
-Talking Heads, mostly from "Remain in Light" and their first album
-"Vacation Wasteland" by Slime Girls (described on their soundcloud as 'chiptune ska') Kind of relevant to NGE because they do a cover of "Cruel Angel's Thesis" I like a lot. Soundcloud's acting up atm, though)
-La Roux. I've worn a hole in her first album but she's come out with a new one I'm hoping somebody will get the hint and get me for Christmas

The Beatles were the best. Astonishing achievements on pretty much all parameters you can set for popular music, three seriously great songwriters, arguably de facto greatest songwriting team of 20th Century (certainly of the rock era) and formidable number of classic songs and albums. If you ask me Revolver is still pretty much the best pop album ever made (and I mean pop in widest sense here, covering pretty much all that isn't classical or jazz).

View Original Postmechashiva wrote:-Talking Heads, mostly from "Remain in Light" and their first album

Remain in Light is one of my favourite 80s albums for sure. Really terrific stuff. Check out the concert film classic Stop Making Sense one day - it is really something special and perhaps the defining moment for the band. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever wassss...
ran1: Oh gosh this sentence gave me an internet boner. You're so tsundere.
Mugwump: Goddamn it, Xard! Take me in your arms, you magnificent sex god bastard!
And don't forget to wear the Ran mask.
Eva Yojimbo: You really are the Otaku equivalent of a Catholic and Jew rolled up into one giant dakimakura of guilt.
Gob Hobblin: Sanctimonious, subtly racist, vaguely misogynist, somehow says something while at the same time saying...nothing, really, at all....

Nice, Xard. That's nice.

That song was definitely one of my favorite k pop songs of the year, and if I had time and convenient internet access I probably would have actually listened to the entire album it was on. But I don't and I didn't. Unfortunately around the time it came out one of the more popular girls in the group was dealing with a lot of crap in the media because she was dating the non-bald dude from Dynamic Duo, so they couldn't really promote it as much as they should have, and the whole situation kinda bummed me out. f(x) slays, though, anyway.

TTS's Holler is probably my favorite k pop song of late, but I haven't been following the scene as much as I could.

Often times, even though I haven't listened to those guys in about a decade, I find myself wondering why, with all of the perfectly good band names out there, they'd decide to call themselves Orgy. And what my mother thought when I told her I wanted an "orgy" cd. Apparently they're still a thing though, so good for them.
I used to work in a factory and I was really happy because I could daydream all day -- I.C.
And thanks to EVA, I've started like myself and that has made me very happy. Mr. Anno, please keep working on EVA a lot more.

I've slept on milo for far too long. He's always been in the periphery of what I've listened to but I only just properly began going through his EPs and mixtapes. His LP handles the namedrops more gracefully but I actually think how unapologetically obvious they were in the mixtapes and EPs was endearing. For me, anyway. Flow is tight regardless. Some good production on this particular mixtape too.

Finally got around to listening to the redux version of Whirl's Pipe Dreams. Oh man, total bliss. The album's production is completely redone from the ground up - my favourite track even more colossal and beautiful: http://graveface.bandcamp.com/track/flashback

Can't get over how different and crisp it sounds...
