He liked fun for himself I suspect. For instance, he destroyed essentially all the church organs in Britain for his principles (which is why there are no truly old organs here, unlike mainland Europe); but kept one aside to be installed in Hampton Court Palace for his own pleasure (the casework of that one has survived).

Just finished ep 1, certainly was insane, but I'm predicting I'm going to like a lot more than Gurren Laggon, this episode really got me into it anyways.

Just watched episode 1 and it was super badas. As expected it looks like this will probably be my favorite series of the year.

Social commentary is something pretty rare to see in anime, so I'm willing to forgive this show some of its excesses just for that. I wish ghostlightning were still blogging, so I could see his reactions to it.

I watched the first two episodes and the best word in my volcabulary that I can describe this show is "bombastic." The animation, story, characters, everything about the show is very bombastic and it is somewhat refreshing. Yet despite all the bombasticness, I'm not sure if that's enough to keep me watching. I'll give it one more episode though and I'll see what happens.

^ That's the thing with this series. I'm hoping the series balances its elements so the over the top factor doesn't wear out.

Based on the speech in the second episode I'm guessing all this stuff with the school hierarchy & school uniforms is just foreplay for when we get to fights with the controlling military of the nation.

I mean the preview for the third episode insinuates that the "Big Bad" Satsuki actually fights with Ryuko next episode... the third episode. This school stuff is all a warm up for something bigger.

And of course I would not be surprised to see Ryuko & Satsuki eventually become allies against the series ultimate bad guy (or Girl).

I just wonder what the whole red thread of destiny symbolism will lead to.

Every time a goku uniform is destroyed, a piece of red string fuses into Senketsu, so yeahhh

when I first sall thee red string acquired after each battle the first thought that came to mind is power ups; the more strings collected the more powerful her senketsu becomes, that is my guess.

Well, maybe so, but you have to think even one step further and think where those strings even come from in the first place!

The red string of fate that is used to make those goku uniforms must be harvested from SOMEWHERE in the first place, right?

I don't inted to take this myth at face value in the context of the show, but it should play a role.

I predict that the goal the kamui and ryuko must become whole again and that somehow ties into Satsuki not wearing an uniform herself

Japanese impressions for KLK episode 3, no spoilers:

-This episode made me decide that I'm going to buy all the BDs.
-Ryuuko, Satsuki and Mako are all Goddesses.
-Kill la Kill 3 was the fucking best.
-I was a bit worried because the atmosphere in episodes 1 and 2 was a bit too comedic, but episode 3 was just awesome!
-They told us to please not give out spoilers but I can say this: it was fucking awesome! The coolest from beginning to ened! And episode 4 looks great, too!
-Super-cool! Ami Koshimizu's perfrmance was the best!
-I now love Ryuuko and Satuski-sama and Mako more than it's healthy.

Episode 4 has storyboard by Imaishi and it's the beginning of the new arc. The show will only grow larger and larger in scale from this point on.

haha I knew that Japanese wedding rituals are gonna be a thing

YES YES YES

Okay now that everyone is reeled in at episode 3, we better get some character development and an increase in scale soon.
Everything about Kill la Kill is stupidly entertaining, but I still haven't been able to give a shit/get invested into anything yet and I am sure that was their intention.
Everything is over the top awesome, there's lots of shouting and Gundam Unicorn Sountrack-isms and the real fun starts now after they have proven that they are more than capable at being what everyone hoped for.

basically:
THIS IS WHERE KLK STARTS
Image

and I cannot wait for the rest.
I seriously hope they make it great, a TV anime to be remembered for quite a long time in the future, from the rumours I sincerely believe that they can make it happen.
Fuuck its a great time to be a animu fan

Maybe so good that someone will make killlakillgeeks.org who knows

I'm liking Kill la Kill, but if they really go for this "enemy of the week" format the 3rd episode implied I may lose interest soon.

No, this is where the filler starts. Real plot will return at mid-season finale, hopefully leading to epic ascended arc in second cour.
For my post-3I fic, go here.
The law doesn't protect people. People protect the law. -- Akane Tsunemori, Psycho-Pass
People's deaths are to be mourned. The ability to save people should be celebrated. Life itself should be exalted. -- Volken Macmani, Tatakau Shisho: The Book of Bantorra
I hate myself. But maybe I can learn to love myself. Maybe it's okay for me to be here! That's right! I'm me, nothing more, nothing less! I'm me. I want to be me! I want to be here! And it's okay for me to be here! -- Shinji Ikari, Neon Genesis Evangelion
Yes, I know. You thought it would be something about Asuka. You're such idiots.

"Filler", that does not directly move the plot along is good, healthy and essential for a show if you want the audience to get invested in your stuff.

Kinda like Magma Diver

Especially in these times where anime is shit out in under 13 weeks and other constraints

Well, good and meaningful filler, at least

Just refer to this chart detailing the tension of Star Wars.

Image

This curve can be found anywhere from detailing the tension and pace of a single episode to a while show, I wont explain the psychoscience here but similar things just have proven themselves to WORK since ancient times or whatever

We barely went past the first bump in kill la kill.
Image

Thing is uh, we NEED filler to make the over the top shit make an impact, if everything were over the top, then nothing would be, right?

Image

In comparison, we have eva here.

If you had taken out episodes like Jet Alone and Magma Diver, would you still be as invested in the characters as you are now?

to finish off my 2AM ramblings, good filler is essential
dont hate on filler
please
