I must have missed that discussion.

According to the EvaWiki, it says Unit-01 has hair, although I don't actually remember anything like that.

At the end of End of Evangelion, Eva-01 is seen to have hair, though Evas don't seem to have any to start with.

By hair, is this image I found in an old thread what it's referring to?



From the thread where I got the illustration, it seems infer that the blue strands seen at the EoE emanating from Unit-01 are hair, but I've always thought it symbolized Yui's soul, and I remember seeing a caption supporting this theory.

Is there any actual evidence throughout the series to support the notion that Unit-01 has hair of some sort? Episode 2 certainly shows the unmasked Unit-01 very clearly.

I imagine that the hair seen in End of Evangelion was not present prior to Yui's deification and liberation from the oppression. It was something she chose to develop herself.

I think that the drawing you posted was concept art by the same man who wanted Evangelion to end with a battle over 'the spine of the death god' between Shinji and wolf!Asuka, so the truth of it is not definitve.

I thought this was a representation of Yui's "soul" the first time I saw EoE, but at some point I started seeing it as hair.

I too have assumed that the blue shape seen at the end of EoE also represented Yui's soul, and I always thought that it was similar, or even related, to this:

EoE's script refers to it as hair.

The Earth tinged red with blood.
A ring of blood has formed.
The Earth goes far off into the distance.
Next, the Moon comes IN. Again, it goes far into the distance.
Next, the Sun comes IN.
EVA-01 comes IN.
The helmet is gone; hair is waving about.
(Its color is back to purple.)

We see here some strange woman living inside Unit 01with similar shaped hair.

And here I was thinking about the entirely wrong kind of hair and wondering "how is she going to shave her legs out there in space?"

Another Ending was gonna have her laying on the moon, again with hair explicitly mentioned.

Note how it's blue. Like the hair of a certain other Lillith-based creation.

Could also be white or silver. Since white isn't a color itself, colors have to be used to give white or near-white objects "body". The Yamashita "goddess" picture linked above provides an apt example.

It's a bit odd that Unit-01 would have hair for EoE, isn't it? It was made quite clear in the second episode of the TV series that Unit-01 doesn't have any.

Hair on an Eva looks pretty ridiculous, but not much one can do but hope Yui eventually gets access to her reflection and has second thoughts...

I dunno, if she keeps the helmet on like in the NGE2 image it might look pretty cool. This also raises the question of whether all the other Evas have hair, and Nerv keeps it in check with regular trimmings, or if hair is exclusive to Eva-01, or Yui just chose to grow some hair.

Did they actually consider having the Evas turn into giant babes at some point story? Cause I think I read about it somewhere around here, perhaps there's someone who could verify. Maybe it was just another one of Yamashita's crazy proposals. I don't really see where else they could have gotten the idea to put hair on an Eva.

Well 01 isn't the only Eva with hair, there's also Unit-Beta from Battle Orchestra, and that doesn't look too bad. Still, I rather like 01's hair, puts me in mind of Nia Tepplin from Guren Lagann.

Im a little confused on what im seeing near the end of End of Evangelion. We see Unit 01 floating in space after instrumentality has been rejected by Shinji and there's a dialogue from Yui. It appears that the Eva has some kind of white hair or something blowing in the cosmic breeze. Does anybody know what this is? Maybe i'm missing something

I always interpreted that as Unit 01's head without her helmet. Since Evangelions are pretty much just giant humans, it'd make sense for them to have hair. It seems like mostly an A E S T H E T I C decision, seeing as how the only other part of her without her armor/restraints is the area around her core.
