OK, so I read that this track was recorded with KST with a view to putting one of them in the Instrumentality sequence and KST was chosen.

Now, was the animation and so on completed at this stage? I asked because ive tried matching up the other track with EoE:
http://tinyurl.com/9pkc2cl

It knida works in a 'Dark Side of OZ' way, but also kinda doesnt It's a smile.

Note that the track is a couple of minutes shorter than KST so im wondering at what stage the latetr was chosen and what stage the storyboard/animation/whatever was at.

The style is definitely there, but I agree that it doesn't match up very well with the visuals.

Yeah, it likely would have matched if they decided to keep on with "Everything you've ever dreamed" for the Instrumentality sequence during production.

Although, i also heard that they planned to use "Everything you've ever dreamed" for the credits (Which were originally planned to be in the ending, right after "Kimochi Warui") Is that correct/accurate?

I've heard both, yeah. EYED being the other possible Instrumentality sequence was mentioned in the Refrain of Evangelion booklet.

With EYED being a possible Movie 26' ending credits sequence, that's speculation from here on the wiki.

Since we're on the topic of this beautiful song (despite the fucked up lyrics/content, something about the song is lovely), I made my first (and only) AMV to it back in August 2009: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0doOOxG6Ezc Unfortunately the AMV wasn't exactly in synch with the lyrics, something got screwy in the editing stage IIRC.

For some reason the intro always puts me in mind of this:

So i suppose that EYED having been another possibility for the instrumentality sequence as the most likely of both rumours, right?

And what is so fucked up about the lyrics? I think it's incredibly beautiful, if extremely sad. And the video was pretty ok in my opinion, the use of black&white in the beggining to accompany the slow introduction of the song is really good (although some of the scene cuts kinda bothered me) The scenes also feel kind of disconnected between themselves (although that is probable just me) But they're more than ok by themselves. Also, sometimes with the lyrics, it seems like the video tries to be too literal and that seems to work agaisnt it as well.

Now that i think about it, has Anno ever spoke about this song or it's meaning (or whatever) in an interview?

This is still one of my favorite songs to wake up to in the morning, so beautiful yet so dark. It's a smile.

I've heard the song before, but this was my time really really listening to it, and holy crap is it beautiful. The lyrics only make it better. It's easy to imagine myself singing it as a genuine love song, with a smile on my face and my eyes closed in reverie, and the juxtaposition between that image and the lyrics adds such a, shall we say, kink to it.

...The Japanese lyrics are very, very different. Almost too obviously relating to the show, even. I like how the song ends:

EYED, Japanese, Translated wrote:

Death will not become my redemption.
For the sake of my redemption, I live.
CHORUS: You go on living, but you don't care.
CHORUS: Selfishly, you go on living, but you don't care.
But how do you intend to make up for everything?

...I don't understand.

I never really thought of Shinji as someone in need of redemption -- just healing. The thought really never even occurred to me.

An old post of Reichu's:

View Original Post Reichu wrote:
Did she promise you the world and did that
Girl just throw your love away
Leave you like a lonely solitaire
With just despair for company
Do you think you'd find revenge so sweet
Make it so you hearts will never beat
Squeeze the very last and dying breath from
Everything you've ever dreamed

The lyrics are/can be very literal to what's going on in EOE, and as Monk pointed out, that looks like the same case for the Japanese lyrics as well.

What's curious to me is, the Japanese lyrics have no equivalent to that section. There's no reference to choking or killing or anything. Instead it's all stuff you could easily imagine being part of an exchange between Shinji and the Yui/Rei team. It makes me wonder how much input Anno had on "Mike Wyzgowski's English Lyrics Adaption" (as it is called in the wiki). Or if it's another case of intentionally making the English and Japanese versions of something different (like Shito/Apostles vs Angels nomenclature). Even the meaning of the song looks completely different between versions, because the English one focuses on lost love and the resulting rage whereas the Japanese one is reflective and repentant, focusing on the question of suicide and redemption after some past grievance. They seem to be snapshots from two different points in time -- one before and one after Shinji's infliction of Third Impact upon the world.

In other words, maybe the juxtaposition of those lyrics with Shinji strangling Asuka on the beach is wrong, and instead it should be the image of Shinji strangling Asuka in P3II. That's the point in time it seems like the English version of the song refers to.

The literal note for me is that 'EYED' was originally an option to be in-place of 'Komm, Süsser Tod', and the first initial lyrics really hit home as Third Impact begins. You know, the "What was it she did to break your heart" part. That's what makes it feel very literal for me.

Edit: Ahh, looks like you added more to your post. Yeah, the English version is more relevant in taking place right after the scene in P3II.

After listening closely to the lyrics for the first time, as Monk Ed just did, I found myself wishing that Gainax would release an alternate cut of the Instrumentality sequence, featuring EYED instead of "Komm Susser Tod." An extra feature on the "20th Anniversary Edition" of End of Evangelion, perhaps?

There are many videos with that premise on Youtube, although that is likely not what you had in mind. And also, yeah i knew the lyrics were referencing EoE, but i don't see that as fucked up in the slightless. The japanese are a good surprise though, i always assumed they were the same thing.

Yeah, I saw one that tried to splice EYED into the original video, but it didn't match up all too well.

I have no idea how Mashed Potatoes (or whatever their name was) got the mid-credits song instead of this. Seems like a no-brainer. Plus, EYED has the virtue of being sorta kinda like NGE's "Fly Me To The Moon" (in a good way).

According to SSD's link to the wiki, this might've been played over a final credits sequence that panned through the sun, Earth, moon, and stars. But I would like to see a post-EoEoE credits sequence comprised of different shots of Shinji and Asuka just sitting around the post-3I beach, like on the EoE DVD cover, with this song playing.

I was so amazed to find this on YouTube so many months ago. That something so beautiful could be so hidden away. When I first listened to it, I looked out my window at the lake on a clear, starry night. And it took me to that post-3I beach.

Thanks for that info, didn't know that yet. Oddly fitting, mostly anorganic things wouldn't take away from the "coldness" of the last scene.
But then again, I see why Anno couldn't resist the option of just abruptly ending the movie on our asses.

How is it either if they're the only two there?
