What are you guys talking about the Revoltech EvaEvo 04(Which was not even a full fledged exclusive) costs as much as both RD 00 and 03(Depending on where you get them) combined IF you can even find it lol The price arguement in the RD vs Revo war has been smashed for awhile now.

Anyway where the hell is all the new eva figs!? Theres not even any proto shots of any........

Huh...Never bothered to look up EvaEvo 04. Yeah, that whole price thing? It's over for now.

I dunno about new figures. I imagine as we get closer to 3.0s release we'll get some info.

There's a new Bandai model kit of Mark 06, if that's what you mean, there's a link in the other figure thread...

Medicom Eva "Q" RAH Asuka

Postby unit450 » Mon Jul 23, 2012 3:31 pm

Well it looks like Medicom isn't settling on just the RAH Neo Eva Unit-01 for 2013, and will be making a Asuka based on her appearance in the new "Q" movie. Set for a January release like Eva Unit-01, for 18,900 Yen(though sites like AmiAmi will have a percent off for pre-orders).

Like the look okay enough that it's worth considering to me, and while it's not a highly expressive face(... again), it is more recognizable as Asuka to me than the 'mild' smile on my 2.22 Asuka(really they could've made it at least smirk like the Mari). Gonna have to wait and see if AmiAmi prices it near the RAH Shinji(School Uniform Ver.) before I take the plunge on this one.

Some preview pics! Have to admit the helmet made me think of a catgirl Spartans when I first saw it...

SPOILER: Show

If it actually looks like that I'll consider it. No way I'm buying one until I see pics of the production model, though.

Hm, I wonder how big the Eva Portraits figures are. Don't own one, but that Asuka sure is nice.

I expect we'll have a flood of new figures come Wonder Fest 2012 here on July 29th. Asuka should be out in force with her new look.

Here's hoping for a figma Q Asuka and some RD or Revoltech news.

Hello there.

With the interest in Evangelion comes the urge to take the beloved characters home, essentially forcing to remind myself that what i did watch wasn't just a dream. When i get allowed to earn money, i would definitely consider collecting. But what? Could someone more knowledgeable on that matter explain how many different figure series they are, which of them receive regular updates, which are special releases and what resources did you use to find that out, if you don't mind sharing?

Also, are they any notorious bootlegs on auction sites such as E-Bay? If so, how to distinguish them from the original ones?

I do have a favourite character. It is Mari Illustrous Makinami. I'd would like to know how many figures of her have been made, and which ones would you recommend me to get. Same goes for the Evangelions she pilots, namely EVA-05 and EVA-02. Also, are they EVA-02 models who can actually change between humanoid and beast mode?

Thanks in advance,
-Restriktion

Hey Restirktion, welcome!

Sadly there isn't a good Eva Figure database to pull info off of. A lot of it is in your head and memorization of which lines are what. The best advice I can give until someone more knowledgeable than I steps up is to read through this thread and if your up to it the one before this. A lot of valuable information is stored here. For up to date news on Eva figures, keep an eye here on the forums. There are enough of us that browse enough different websites that we catch most if not all the Eva figure releases.

Given that your just starting out and don't have a lot of money (i'm assuming, no offense ment, we've all been there) you want the best bang for your buck. I'm going to be linking to Amazon.com for simplicity on both our parts as it gives you all the information you need to pick up that particular figure in your area.

I'm going to assume you want poseable figures and from the Rebuild movie series. If you want options from the TV series, let me know, I'll give you a couple for EVA-02.

Mari? No question, get the figma:
http://www.amazon.com/Illustrious-Makinami-Figma-Action-Figure/dp/B003OICNHI/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1343195506&sr=1-1&keywords=mari+illustrious+makinami

or

If you want your Mari to be in the Unit-05 plug suit, your forced to go to Revoltech for that one:
http://www.amazon.com/Fraulein-Revoltech-Evangelion-Makinami-Figure/dp/B0040ZNYRC/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1343196299&sr=1-2&keywords=mari+illustrious+makinami

Eva Unit-05? Only Revoltech makes them, so get the EvaEvo version:
http://www.amazon.com/Revoltech-Yamaguchi-Evangelion-Evolution-Provisional/dp/B005N23P02/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1343195630&sr=1-1&keywords=eva+05

Eva Unit-02, since you are pretty well forced to get the Revoltech 05 and the insane prices for a Robot Damashii Unit-02, get the EvaEvo version from Revoltech:
http://www.amazon.com/Evangelion-102-Revoltech-Evolution-EVA-02/dp/B004ISK95G/ref=pd_sim_t_5

Eva Unit-02 Beast Mode, this is a tough one. Revoltech Beast Mode 02s are surprizingly hard to find for a decent price. With that in mind, get the Robot Damashii. I own one and have been completely happy with it. And they are readily available so you can get them for cheap.
http://www.amazon.com/Robot-Spirits-Side-EVA-Evangelion/dp/B003U6H91E/ref=pd_sim_t_26

There are no figures that allow you to transform a Unit-02 from normal to beast mode. You have to pick up two figures. I prefer it this way as you get two solid, good looking figures. Instead of one weaker figure.

Bootlegged Eva figures? Buy from a reputable dealer such as Amazon, HobbyLinkJapan, AmiAmi, HobbySearch, Kirin Hobby, etc. If you have to buy off eBay? Stay away from places shipping from China. Ship from Japan or America if you can. Bootlegs (if there are any) are much rarer to come from those places than the bootleg capitol of the world.

With those four figures I'd say you would have a good healthy Mari collection made up of good quality figures. If nothing else, you have a great starting point in which to expand from. Hope this helps you out!

Regards,
-Sarge

Also are you just interested in articulated models? How about pre-painted display (set pose) models?
Also how intent are you on having a complete set of figures from the same series? I personally don't have resources to fill out matching collections. Instead, I'm slowly getting models I particularly like the look of without duplicating the same character much.

For mari, the above advice is solid. For non moveable figures, the max factory mari 1/6 is an expensive, simple pose but great looking option. There are some other options for eva-05 mari as well. One of which came out for preorder not that long ago. Just punch in mari into the search bar at amiami and you'll get a good idea of what figures have existed..most will be "long sold out" in which case you have to resort to ebay and such..

For sourcing and discovering new products I keep the following links as a folder of book marks I open up every now and then and search evangelion.

Thank you very much for your advice.

I definitely consider getting this Figma. Even if the pseudonym implies that, i am not restricted to collecting Rebuild merchandise, but i think i start with the older ones when i've seen the Animé myself.

Thank you, too. It did help indeed, i think i know where to search. I also would like to collect many different figures, but i would like to start with Mari.

But, did you get charged by customs when importing goods? I've made bad expieriences with that some time ago, but how about you?

I haven't encountered customs yet but it depends what you buy and the value i suppose here's a list of stuff I've got imported
Also some countries and worse than others for handling imports it seems.

Asuka 1/6 max factory from america quite expensive through ebay
3 cans of UCC coffee with figures - won the ebay auction for 9 dollars..paid 20 in postage i think. from Japan
2 of the hydro 5 shavers with figures off ebay from Japan...(yes yes i know, silly product..but my brother and i both needed shavers so....)
Platinum thinkpak dvd from america
Most of the volumes of the manga at various prices from america
stainless steel camping mug from Japan

Everything from Japan was using bog standard SAL small packet when available. EMS is meant to be way safer and faster...but it's more expensive too.

So maybe i've been lucky so far. The last time i got hit by customs was buying a laptop from america..and that customs bill came like 2-3 months after I got it so it's conceivable i just haven't got the bills yet

Ooooh, okay.

With older style Eva figures your sorta stuck. As they've been out of print for awhile. You've got the big two Bandai's Soul of Chogokin SPEC line and Kaiyodo's Revotechs.

The SPEC line is the cream of the crop when it comes to TV series EVAs and have the price tag to back it up. However if you can stomach the cost of one, you'll love it. Beautifully painted pieces, removable armor, die cast leg armor to keep center of balance low, enough accessories to come out of your ears. You can identify them by their model number, they all start with XS-0. Such as my EVA-02 is XS-08. With EVA-01 you want to get the Renewal version which fixed a couple of issues. It's model number is XS-01R. You can't buy these in a normal shop for anywhere near cheap. Ebay and Mandarake are your friends here. No EoE figures in this lineup. Can be Pricey depending on which model of Eva your after. $60-$150

Example of how the packaging looks:
http://tinyurl.com/cjvekmb

Kaiyodo's Revoltechs...I honestly can't say much about them, have a couple on the way, but none in my hands to give you a definite good or bad on them. Someone with more experience with these older Revos should step in here to help you out. Identify these by small white boxes with a window to see the figure inside. Really though, once you've seen one Revoltech package, you can pick them out of the crowd pretty easily. These DO have EoE figures in the lineup. This line also carries a fair number of Rei and Asuka figures in their Fraulein lineup. $20-$60

Example of Packaging:
http://tinyurl.com/d8ydgc2

Fraulein Packaging:
http://tinyurl.com/c7tuhgz

Then there are a few other figures that are on my radar. The original Soul of Chogokin line, Kaiyodo's Xebec line, and Sega's Real Model lineup.

Original Soul of Chogokin line, just from what I've seen, if you got the money for one of these, get a SPEC figure instead. These are identified by their model number GX. Such as EVA-02 is GX-15. No EoE figures. $60-$140.

Example of Packaging:
http://tinyurl.com/ca3okm6

Kaiyodo's Xebec line is basically your traditional action figure. Cut/Swivel joints, semi-fixed pose. But where they lack in posability they make up for in looks and paintwork. They are beautiful. You can identify these by their packaging. Traditional blister card, blue colored backing. There are EoE figures in this lineup. The Mass Produced EVA in this lineup is particularly nice as it comes with a mangled EVA-02 to go with it. This line also has figures of Rei and Asuka in it. Fixed pose, but with the ability to swap limbs to change pose. Moderate to Expensive. These are long out of production. Repainted and released number of times in metallic and clear colors. Also comes in a second type of packaging called "Launch Tube Packaging" which is just the Metallic figure rereleased. Prices go from $50-$150 per figure, unless you get lucky on Ebay.

Rei and Asuka Packaging:
http://tinyurl.com/cr4wos2

TV Series Packaging:
http://tinyurl.com/cg49vbe

Launch Tube Packaging:
http://tinyurl.com/ceklgew

EoE EVA-02 Packaging:
http://tinyurl.com/c2344rd

EoE Mass Production EVA Packaging:
http://tinyurl.com/casu9lj

Sega's Real Model lineup. Very cost effective. Fairly cheap figures of the Evas. But lack quality as seen in the others. VERY simple joints, limited posing. I'd recommend only picking up your favorite Eva out of this line as a test to find out if you like it. I've seen people who love them others hate them. Packaging is a blister card as with Xebec, however this time it is done in red. In my opinion, avoid this lineup. Your limited money is better spent somewhere else, like a Revoltech. $10-$30

As for the Eva pilots themselves?

For poseable figures-

There are three that stand out in my mind in this catagory. Figma, Revoltech Fraulein, and Medicom's Real Action Heroes (RAH) line.

Figma is the cream of the crop here in my eyes. Only three pilots made so far. Rei Ayanami, Mari Makinami, and Asuka Langley Shikinami in her Test Suit. Each comes with a Entry Plug Cockpit, superb sculpt, good price point, and readily available. $40-$70

Example of Packaging:

Revotech's Fraulein lineup is one of the better filled out lines. You can get any of the female pilots here. Plenty of accessories, readily available, a good second choice to me. $20-$60

Packaging:

Medicom's Real Action Heroes lineup is basically your 12inch line. Rubber and/or cloth over a poseable frame. Think old G.I. Joe or Barbie figures on steroids. I am unable to give a proper opinion on these as I havn't owned one. $100-$250 depending on character.

For Fixed Pose Figures/Statues-

There are so many fixed pose figures out there your brain will shut down. Rei and Asuka literally have hundreds of different figures out there of them. The Eva's themselves have a bit less as the two girls have always been the stars of this category. Dozens of companies. For this category, I have no big opinion on them as I tend towards poseable figures. Someone else is gonna have to do the work for those. I'd rather watch Episode 25 and 26 again then try to filter through all those figures to give you an idea of what is good and what isn't. For my four fixed pose figures I operated on "Ooo, I like that one" and bought it.

Didn't mean to write a whole book on this subject for you, but that really is the short and quick version of the Evangelion figure empire. I want to set up a website of some sort to give newcomers such as yourself an easy database to go on, search for the company, character, etc. pull up the details, price, packaging, date released, rereleases, and such. As well as list a number of reviews for each. However doing so would be a huge undertaking. I'd need some help to do that.

Hope I didn't bore you to tears!

You can buy these in a normal shop for anywhere near cheap. Ebay and Mandarake are your friends here. No EoE figures in this lineup. Can be Pricey depending on which model of Eva your after. $60-$150

Example of how the packaging looks:

Kaiyodo's Revoltechs...I honestly can't say much about them, have a couple on the way, but none in my hands to give you a definite good or bad on them. Someone with more experience with these older Revos should step in here to help you out. Identify these by small white boxes with a window to see the figure inside. Really though, once you've seen one Revoltech package, you can pick them out of the crowd pretty easily. These DO have EoE figures in the lineup. This line also carries a fair number of Rei and Asuka figures in their Fraulein lineup. $20-$60

No, this wasn't boring at all. I aspire to collect them one day and therefore i have to thank you for sharing this information and expierience with me.

I've found the Figma of Mari relatively cheap, and i am probably going to purchase it first. For her attire while piloting Unit-05, i have to resort to the Fräulein series.

I apparently don't really care for stationary figures, unless they look really good or are life-size ones.

And if you are going to realize that project, i would like to help you when i get more knowledgable on the matter.

I'm thinking of selling my SoC Evas(00-04), need to figure out a price and how much shipping would cost since they're heavy.

Edit: Ok, I basically took the lowest price on ebay for each unit and cut that in half. Came out to $228, but i'll let them go for a $120+shipping.
If anyone is interested let me know cause they'll go up on ebay if not and I'll prob up the price to $150+shipping'

SoC Eva set(not the soul spec)
00-04(5 total)
Used,displayed only
99% complete, some minor pieaces MAY be missing but none of the main stuff.
Boxes and trays included but can ship without to bring down shipping cost if you want.

Just msg me or hit me up here if interested, I'll give it a week or so before I throw them on ebay.
Internet elitists suck,ya you know who you are.

The Portrait figures are roughly 5.5'' tall. They're basically trading figures, but are pretty detailed.

I just ordered my Pirate Asuka today.
Why do they even want the Loc-Nar? All it does is melt you.
