The chinstrap as depicted on Asuka is part of her new helmet; when freezeframing the promo footage that showed her removing the helmet in the cockpit, you can see this. It's interesting to see that part in fanart for (to me) the first time, though yeah you'd only see her with that on if the orange visored cat-eared space helmet were on too, I think.
