This wasn't an official trailer; it was "Eva Extra 08" which also included footage from the first two movies. Since tickets don't go on sale until July 14th, they are probably waiting for then. (not sure, just my speculation). |

The original set up a fairly run of the mill fanservicey anime in the first half too, which it then tore apart. Judging by what we've seen of 3.0 (the blue poster, the title, voice actor's comments etc) it seems to me 3.0 will be moving towards the darker, harsher Eva of old. |
It's not just the tone of the series. The original's first half may have been relatively lighthearted as well, but it still managed to give its characters a lot more depth than Rebuild has thus far. And the reason for that ties in with the endless "service, service!" the latter has, since too much time is wasted on overlong and overproduced action sequences, which in the original were a lot more to the point and quicker. And then there's the pandering, which in the original was fairly sporadic and had an actual point in increasing tension in Shinji's Hedgehog Dillema, whereas in Rebuild it's just there for the sake of appealing to desperate otaku and their wallets.
Regardless, even if Rebuild does end up going darker places in its second half, I'll still find it pretty hard to care about what the characters end up suffering from as a result, since they're all still so bland and underdeveloped.
Anyway, I second "Voice actor comments? WHERE?" Always a pleasure to hear from Megumi Ogata and company. |

I agree somewhat, but I believe 3.0 deserves its fair shot. I think they're really trying with this project. It's just that the nature of what it is (four movies/compression of a television series) kind of puts limits on what it can do character wise (you're beating a dog because it wont learn algebra).
That said, yeah, there's totally a character deficit, especially for the 'introduced' characters in 2.0. Asuka in particular is only slightly more established than Kaji or Mari, but it's like the movie is asking her to be a major part. Something just turned out weird about it. Like a cake mixture that didn't come out perfectly right. They didn't mean to make a shit cake, they just fucked something up somewhere in the baking.
But I don't think any of that is irreversible. They could adjust it in the next one, they just need to actually commit to doing it. _________________ Why do they even want the Loc-Nar? All it does is melt you. |
