The thought of Asuka and Toji together makes me more queasy than Shinji and Rei (I view that as incest)

That would make Shinji/Rei insanely hot; whereas Asuka/Touji is merely a depressingly plausible hot girl/bad boy style pairing; and Asuka could do so much better, though perhaps not if restricted to the named cast.

Misato and Kaji are the closest the series comes to depicting a healthy adult relationship, and the only one that almost works out. Not to mention both characters are awesome in their own right.

Is anyone here a fan of Ritsuko x Gendo? I find it hard to view their relationship as genuine, as Ritsuko was simply being used by Gendo. It is the same story with Naoko x Gendo. Do any of you view Gendo's relationship with the Akagis to be real and worthy of the something x something title?

I am not a fan of Gendo X the Akagis . He was just using them both as a means to an end. No one could ever replace his Yui in his heart and mind he was just using them. I think that manga Gendo said that he loved Ritsuko just to let her guard down. She was very shocked by the expression on her face and as I recall she did not even say liar. Anyhow they were just a means to a end for him.

Kaji and Misato for me.

Kaji/Misato in Rebuild, because in 2.22 that hound-dog Kaji gets lunch-eating Misato from distinctly frosty to blushing and thinking impure thoughts in 45 seconds.

I've stopped shipping. I think it is silly. Although, relationships that make sense on the otherhand...

Shinji x Asuka would make better sense than Shinji x Rei (even though the latter is my dirty little secret). Shinji and Asuka both share problems, and view (widely) different ways on how to deal with them. Them together, they could learn to balance each other, and better themselves entirely.

Yui x Gendo, because affairs.

Misato x Kaji. This is because they are foils to each other. Misato, although can be laid back at times, is responsible (mostly) but has difficulty giving moral/lessons to others (commander). Kaji, on the otherhand, is completely laid back at all times (He faces death with absolute calm), is irresponsible (can be responsible), but gives very important lessons and teaches morals (mentor). This balance creates a conflicting yet mutual connection and creates for a well rounded relationship.

Rei x Kaworu. I will explain later.

You see, what makes sense to me is a relationship based on the conclusion of balance. Conflict may seem bad, but is important because it confirms that there still remains two sides (That being said, too much conflict is not good). This is why I can see Ritsuko x Maya as an interesting combo, but it can't work because Ristuko and Maya are too similar. They work better as a mentor/student relationship (which is already made apparent in the series).

I'm afraid I don't really support any 'canon' pairings in the series, though I see the Kaworu/Shinji pair quite... plausible? Perhaps it's the fujoshi in me talking, but I hate (NGE) Shinji far too much to even consider this.

While it's so obvious that Asuka has been pinning over Shinji, I can't accept that my queen is running after him, really.

Non-canon though... oh boy. I could probably write a manifesto on why Kaworu and Asuka are perfect together. In fact, I probably would, but right now I'm at work so all explaining would have to be done later.

I also adore Mari/Asuka and could probably write a manifesto on them too, except there's really no information on Mari other than what we've seen in Rebuild.

I wish there are more interaction between my pairings in the remaining movies. Imagination can only do so much, I want visual confirmation evidence appearance, even just a bit.
