Maybe they are focusing on Asuka because angry Asuka fans in Japan were angry after 2.0?

Edit: I actually don't like the idea of Khara doing this stuff in such a reactionary, knee-jerk fashion. I hope they don't.

Yeah, not to knock Asuka focus but for this reveal I was expecting something different. I was thinking every other information leak was accmpanied by some kind of Asuka thing so surely this one would show us something else to ponder over. Ah, but nope, more space Asuka. Yeah, great. Like I said, I want it, but I wasn't expecting it again. (I just kind of read it as overcompensating a bit)

A couple pictures.

This shot looks like a space station or some kind of defensive satellite. It certainly looks mechanical, and I don't think it belongs to Asuka (unless it's part of the vehicle that she rode on).

And this shot is right in between the tendril thing and the shots of Asuka flipping around for the rest of the video. You can see the outline of someone, but it's hard to tell. Might be the next shot in the sequence that was cut off by the following edit.

You had me until here. How are these new series positive, and upbeat? I'm honestly curious, the movies preoccupation with fun only makes it all the more disturbing since everything goes to shit faster.

EDIT: Also can someone put up a pic of Asuka's face. I've watched it, and it looks like she has lost her shit.

Seems more like an "oh shit!" face to me.

The editing makes it hard to make things out, but it looks like there's some corruption goo that gets on the gun and forces her to discard it.

Well, part of the image is fading from the glowing noodle arm thing with the halo around it. I paused it right there when another image was starting to fade in for a split second. Like, maybe we weren't supposed to see it. It kind of looked like a silhouette of someone to me (or some kind of monster) because of the apparent glowing eyes.

So 17 November... When can we expect to see it outside of Japan? I mean, I've only recently gotten into the Rebuilds so I don't know how it went down the last two times. Will we have to wait for the 3.33 DVD/Blu-ray release? Or will a fansub pop up on YouTube? I have no fucking clue. In other words... How can I see it as soon as possible?

If my Japanese was any better I'd fly over to see it in the cinemas. My GF and I were planning a November trip any way...

Neither of the previous two movies was camripped for a while.

It'd be super swell if some kind of worldwide simulrelease was arranged, but there's less a chance of that happening than there is of khara demanding an exorbitant amount of money for the licensing rights 3.0 that nobody's willing to pay.

So happy that the release date question has finally been answered! Still confused a little bit on them premiering the trailer on the side of a movie theater? Couldn't they have found a white wall to project it on or at least a monitor? Someone at Khara - Anno? - is probably laughing at how excited people are about this. Oh well, hopefully it played inside as well & soon we'll get a clear look at it. Can't wait to get a better idea of what's going on.

Anywho, I wouldn't place too much importance on what's being shown in the marketing. Just cause Asuka is getting the glory in the marketing right now might mean next to nothing in the final film where she could end up with only 5 minutes screentime. I'm really certain if anyone is going to get heavy focus in 3.0 it's going to be Kaworu. For all we know, Asuka's space battle might be getting the brunt of the show here is because it's the only section that is fully animated.

We will find out around November 17!

As for release elsewhere? If I recall correctly 2.0 had a camrip out within a couple weeks but that's all up to the variables of someone pulling it off in a theater. Perhaps they'll keep the trick of releasing a Rebuild film on DVD/BD in late May but more likely expect it to hit shelves August-ish 2013. And probably 18 months to 2 years after this November Funimation will give 3.0 a small theatrical run before hitting shelves in the US.

Ya know, I actually almost feel jealous that I haven't had to wait years for this since I started anime/evangelion this year essentially.

That and I have this weird excitement/expectations of the film. AND HAVE NO IDEA what to do with them.. I mean, I can't understand japanese, release date -then wait for rip/BD/fansub/english licensing/ english release.

srsly what do I do...

So confusing trying to be a fanboy of something you can't read breaking news of first hand :P

Perhaps, but perhaps not. All we have to go on is what they decide to show us. The only thing you're really certain of now is the release date.

Regarding that fight: a mindrape seems unlikely, both because we expect it and because they basically did that already in the Bardiel fight. But it's possible they might invert that somehow, have the Angel try it and then have Asuka use the Bardiel experience to turn the tables instead of getting broken. This would fit with the new movies' generally more positive and upbeat attitude.

Agree on the mind-rape, and the cynical explanation for no Mari (beyond the stock 'well, they aren't showing a whole heck of a lot in these previews, so complete absence of 99% of all characters makes sense') is that the chaos depicted in the 2.0 CRC ( http://www.gwern.net/docs/2010-crc ) is *still* true: they still don't know what to do with Mari.

Besides that it really doesn't make any sense. Every single promotion 3.0 received has featured Asuka only thus far, the June 2011 Newtype cover, the first real trailer in August 2011, when they announced the official english title it was coupled with the new years card featuring Asuka donning her space helmet and now the second 3.0 trailer.

If anything it's very deliberate (for whatever reason, including another bait and switch a la Bardiel and Mari piloting Unit 02) and considering that this appears to be the near final version of August 2011's mockup animation, highly unlikely that it was chosen specifically because it was the only finished animation (even moreso considering that it releases in 4.5 months, all the animation should be feature complete sans post processing and the like at this phase) but I do see the case where because this particular scene was the focus in the August 2011 trailer it's possible then that it was the first scene to be completed and the first to reach the conceptual stage at that.

Yeah, it's very deliberate. If it were the case that Asuka's role is very small in 3.0, then it's an intentional bait and switch with the marketing. Which, yeah I mean it's Anno, so anything's possible. But even so, not being Japanese means I'm not as captive an audience for that trick to work.
