"The Prince of Egypt" (and Dreamworks 2D films made before Shrek, including films after this film, "Spirit" and "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas").
Yeah, remember this animated epic? At the time, it was the film to talk about, now it's a film that no one talks about. What the hell? Guess we could blame the new CGI films for getting rid of its popularity. To this day, it still holds up well. People should see this if they have never seen it. It's better than Shrek (though, Shrek is still OK.)
In general, the films that were made in animated 2D are now downplayed thanks to their 3D films. People talk about How to/ Dragon, Megamind and Shrek instead of "The Road to El Dorado" or "Sinbad" (To be honest, I enjoyed it... flawed, yes, but damn, did I have fun watching this!) It's funny that those films' animations that are considered Disney knock-offs... actually are true knock-offs. Hell, they were at the point where it feels like Disney Animation. That's how great their animation was! (though, it couldn't be helped that Jeffrey Katzenberg works at Dreamworks!)
How about their first 3D film, "Antz"? No one talks about it, either. It's not a top-notch film, but it's still good. |

-The Jacket: As a miserable and lonely veteran it truly spoke to me, even if it didn't speak to movie critics.
-Rubber's Lover: Every single thing in this movie was pure craziness on a stick. I love Japanese cyberpunk! (Fun Fact: I think Hideo Kojima got the idea for Psycho Mantis from this movie). _________________ FAN ARTISITS: I am willing to pay good money for K-On!/Genocide Organ crossover fanart. On the subject of turn-of-the-melinuim animation and underrated films: Titan AE and Atlantis: The Lost Empire both deserve WAY more praise and remembrance then they get. _________________ AVATAR: Zer0 from Borderlands 2. |

Was reminiscing over Jason Reitman's Young Adult. It seemed to just come and go through theaters without much fanfare, but I thought it was a pretty good film. Not Reitman's best, but definitely deserving of more attention than it got.
Also, one would be hard-pressed to consider any Quentin Tarantino film "underrated," but I've always thought Jackie Brown deserved more attention. It's definitely a better film than Reservoir Dogs and Death Proof, IMO, and at least on the the same level as Inglourious Basterds (which has improved to me upon recent re-viewing).
I already mentioned Hong Sangsoo's Oh! Soo-Jung, but his film Woman on the Beach deserves mention as well. Am I the only person on EGF who has seen any of Hong's films? I get the feeling a lot of EGFers would enjoy his works. I haven't yet seen his film The Day He Arrives, but reviews are hailing it as one of his best films, and topped many lists of "the best Korean films of 2011" polls. It also currently has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes... so yeah. Do yourselves a favor and see a couple Hong Sangsoo films. _________________ The Skirt-Chasing Mafioso of EGF

Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man is so wildly strange and different, I don't get why people in the art-house crowd don't talk more about it.
Le Cercle Rouge is also pretty unknown outside of Jean-Pierre Melville fans but I thought it was his third-best film after Le Samurai and Army of Shadows. _________________ Your primary source of one-note, watered-down, vapid nothingness on EGF.

In my experience Dead Man is quite talked about on film fag forums. I remember one forum where most of the members ranked it in their top 20s. _________________ "I'd really like to have as much money as you have, Oz" - robersora
