Nevermind the overt trauma of Shinji getting to see Misato waving a pistol around at the back of Ritsuko's head (or was he subconsciously rooting for her to do it?)

...But it's not Gendo who says this, it's Shinji himself, Gendo never mentions anything like that.

Rei 1 says it in Episode 20 while little Shinji says it in Episode 16. Or some such thing.
