May I hazard a guess?
| Quote: | Gendo: Rei, I see you are back to work.
Rei: Yes, commander. I have been cleared to return to my duties.
Gendo: Have you made a full recovery from your injuries?
Rei: Yes, commander.
Gendo: Good. We do not expect any more anomalies in Evangelion 00's behaviour. Are you ready to commence the new activation test?
Rei: Yes, commander. I shall not disappoint you.
Gendo: Excellent. |
My interpretation of the scene is that Gendo is happy to see that Rei has made a full recovery and has returned to piloting. Rei is happy to continue piloting, because she knows it is her purpose for existence, and because of her loyalty to Gendo after he forced open her entry plug after the Unit-00 berserk.
Most likely, any small talk by Rei and Gendo will only be about work. Perhaps some off-hand reference to the Unit-00 berserk, but absolutely no discussion of their feelings. That is all in their body language.
However, Shinji only receives their body language, and feels left out by the obvious intimacy the two share. He is left pondering what they could be talking about, and keeps himself awake at night questioning what Rei is receiving from his father that he is missing out on. |

If there was a new poster, it should have a closeup of shinji's eye with Eva-01 reflected that would be cool. |

On the subject of 3.0 posters, I remember seeing someone somewhere joke that the poster would be just like 1.0 and 2.0's "Shinji sitting on steps with other kids," except all the other kids would be replaced with naked Rei clones. I actually thought that was a great idea.
Even if they don't do that, I'm hoping the next poster follows the format of the previous two. Nothing bothers me more than when fiction follows a certain pattern and doesn't stick to it. Unless the breaking of the pattern serves a distinct purpose. That's why I can't believe others wanted 3.0 to lose the "You Auxiliary Verb (Not) Verb" format. But I'd be okay if 4.0 lost it, if that showed how 4.0 broke away from the rest of the series in whatever way... but two with the format and two without? That just doesn't make any sense. |

What could work well for a poster would be "Shinji sitting on steps with other kids" but without Shinji, play with the fact that he's stuck inside unit 01 and how he's going to get back (if he wants to). _________________ Enjoying a Toasty Cheese Sandwich is my middle name. |

Toji, Kensuke, and Hikari might actually be dead, and the Rei we knew doesn't have a body, so the poster might as well have Alternate Rei with her four Rei-lings, Kaworu, Eyepatch Asuka, and Mari. Standing in a ruin, of course. _________________ -- Rachel K. Clark (a.k.a. "Reichu")

Just use the storeside silhouettes. In all new poses, of course. The position of that foot is so Bethany Base! |

^I feel bad for not catching that.
And it reminded me, to be extremely OCD here, it bothers me that the auxiliary verb for 3.0 is "Can." Because they already used "Can" in 2.0. It'd be alright if all four movies used "Can," but if two movies use "Can" and the other two use other words... give me a break. Maybe 4.0 will use "Are" again to balance it out. But it still won't be as perfect as I'd imagined it would, with four different auxiliary verbs. "You Are (Not)," "You Can (Not)," then preferably "You Will (Not)," then... "You Have (Not)?" Maybe "Have (Not)" and then "Will (Not)." 3.0 should've been "You Have (Not) Escaped." It has a significance similar to "You Can (Not) Redo." And I always liked someone's suggestion for 4.0, "You Will (Not) Survive."
That was only 60% joking. It actually does bother me, and I actually have thought about what would be better. |

As long as she develops on her own away from Shinji, I think we'll be good. And, some back story(They refused to let her any where near her mother time around) But, Shinji is indeed in the third no way can they make the tetralogy without including him in all the films. With Rei, we might see the third incarnation make her appearance.
As for the multiple Rei's she is still a clone, so having more than one copy is feasible, and not a stretch of imagination. Or, that's a major facet of her character.Or, when Shinji breaks reality to save her she even says she can be replaced. So yeah, ignoring that is kind of well illogical.

^All those Reis.
Implying an exposition from reality/ a venture to the Reiquarium.
I'm ignoring it for the reason that it appears to be an instrumentality sequence. _________________ Beinaheleidenschaftsgegenstand

Less is more when it comes to Kaworu. I think a ton of screen time could actually hurt him. He seems to be the only thing in Eva that people prefer to be mysterious. |

Your focus on Asuka might cloud the fact that Mari has hardly interacted with anyone at all. And the only significant reaction she has ever gotten out of anyone was one of surprise.
Here are ALL of Mari's interactions with other characters:
- Mari & the 3rd Angel:
A fight to the death. It is unclear, however, if the Angel is actually sentient. It is fleeing from Mari and only fights in self-defense. Mari kills it with self-destructive force (while her Evangelion is failing).
- Mari & Kaji:
We only have indirect clues that they interact. Based on these, we can conclude that each uses their relationship to serve their own ends, but we don't know what those are.
- Mari & Shinji:
These are Mari's most significant social moments in 2.0.
Mari falls out of the sky on top of Shinji. She likes his smell. He is bewildered, astonished and possibly traumatized by her appearance.
Mari falls into Shinji's Angel shelter and lifts him out. She offers him gentle advice without pressuring him. He hardly appears to acknowledge her, because he is more absorbed by both his inner turmoil and the destruction he sees outside.
- Mari & the 10th Angel ("Zeruel")
A fight nearly to the death. The Angel considers Mari a threat to its advance on the Geofront. Mari considers the Angel her mortal enemy. The Angel wins.
- Mari & Rei:
While Mari goes berserk against the 10th Angel, Rei interjects herself in between, along with an N2 missile. Rei thanks Mari and throws her out of harms way before the missile explodes. Mari is surprised and shocked by this. It is unclear whether Rei actually recognizes Unit-02's pilot as someone other than Asuka. Remember that Unit-02 had its communication channels blocked.
In my opinion, the second interaction between Mari and Shinji (in the shelter) is the only meaningful conversation she has on-screen in the entire movie. All remaining interactions are either Angel battles or very brief encounters.
I do not experience the absence of a Mari-Asuka interaction to be more special than the absence of a Mari-Misato or Mari-Gendo interaction.
Also, here's a random prediction on that thought:
What if Asuka is released from stasis at the same time that Mari is introduced to NERV command (or its successors), resulting in a situation where Mari takes Shinji's place as Misato's and Asuka's roommate, including the penguin-in-the-shower-and-standing-naked-behind-a-pile-of-beer-cans joke?
In that same vein, Kaworu could be housed in Rei's sparsely-furnished apartment while Rei is absent. |

That's what quite a few of us have been saying for a while now, about how she basically has very little impact and barely exists to the story so far (i.e. so far a pointless / underutilized addition). Then again Kaworu's also been pointless so far, and Asuka's been underutilized... so I guess my point is to concur with what others are saying about how 3.0 has a whole lot of stuff on its plate to try and deal with. The more I think about it, we're probably going to get another rushed narrative mess in the vein of 2.0.
Jornophelanthas wrote: | | Mari-Gendo interaction |
Speaking of conspicuously absent interactions from the Eva franchise, I'd laugh if we got a Mari-Gendo scene but still no Asuka-Gendo scene. Seriously, they've never even appeared in the same shot, interacted, or even referred to eachother IIRC.
As far as Mari living at Misato's or Kaworu at Rei's place, I don't think we'll see either location again. I get the sense that Rebuild is going for a 'you can never go home anymore' feel with its transition from 2.0 to 3.0. _________________ I'm now a legend. I'm also the greatest poster to live.
