[NGE] Individual scenes
Alright so some people like the anime more then the manga and visa versa.
But were do you think the manga beats the anime?
Which scene(s) do you think were handled better?
And which scenes does the anime do better then the manga?
Taking it a step further, which Shinji, Rei, Asuka, etc. etc.
do you like better, Anime or Manga?
Personally, I liked it better when Shinji woke up in the hospital after the dream with the Eva, got piked up by Misato and then broke down after seeing the city.
It just worked better for me.
Another scene I think Yoshyuki nailed would be Shinji's rescue of Ayanami fro the entry plug after their fight with ramiel (the big cube)
As far as the anime goes, I'm sorry, but few things match Shinji's first encounter with Pen Pen.
And having Shinji talk with Kaji out in the garden overlooked by a decapitated unit-02 was better. (although that way we don't hear about Kaji's childhood)
Character wise, I like Sadamoto's Rei better.
And while I love manga Shinji, Annos' seems a more honest representation of the character.

I asked "And where would you take me?"
At this the beast laughed, tears made of my mother's blood leaked from his eyes.
"I will take you to every place you never wanted to be, and you will hate it."
"Then I will take you to every place you've already been, and you will hate that also."
"Last I will take you to the places you have always dreamed of, and that you'll hate worst of all."

Yeah I agree 100% there. I like the anime better overall, but I do believe Rei is much better developed in the manga.
The rest of the characters, especially Asuka and Shinji, are better developed in the anime. Some people like the 'agressive' Shinji in the manga better, but I felt the anime version of Shinji was more honest and heartbreaking and real.

The good thing about the manga is that Sadamoto has had lots of time to think about how to tell the story.
Things about the manga I liked better:
The way in which Shinji still feels awkward around Rei due to the incident in her apartment. Sadamoto really conveyed the "wrongness" of that scene so much better.
The expanded scene after the defeat of Ramiel.
The differences in volume 6, such as Touji's fear of piloting, and Shinji's knowledge of Touji's piloting, and as well, Touji dying. It was just a real heart wrenching series of events.
Kaji's backstory.
Less filler.
Things about the manga I didn't like:
No melon patch scene.
No leliel.
Kaworu is a fucking cat killer.

Things I liked
The nice little WAFFy Shinji/Asuka bit in v.5
Shinji has a sembelance of a backbone most of the time
Unit-01 is sooooo much more frightning in the manga when it goes berserk in v.7
They show just how they got Shogouki back into the hanger after that little incident...
Things I didn't Like
Karwou, 'nuff said.
They killed Touji! (Those basterds...)
A little too Rei-Centric... I like Asuka myself.

I like the Manga better, for many reasons. One being certain chracters like Kaji. He is handeld SO MUCH better in the manga, his past, his diouloge, eveything is better.
I liked how Shinji knew that Toji was the pilot, it made the whole scene of his eva tearing apart toji's much more dramatic. And while it's sad that Toji dies in the manga, overall it was a better end to his character arc since Toji pretty much does nothing else in the anime after that.
The hug Shinji and Misato shared in volume 2 was touching aswell.

stuff i liked
Rei inviting Shinji to her apartment the day after the "incident".
Kaworu killing a cat. <-- puts more personality into him imo
..And i hate cats.. DIE HELLO KITTY MUAHAHHAHA
Shinji finaly breaks out and punches Gendo. But Kaji stopped him.
And also like Aaron said:
Kaji's back story and the extended scene after Ramiel.
Over all, i like the way it was stream-lined to make the plot flow better.
Oh and ofcourse Sadomoto-sensei's artwork
stuff i didn't like
Not much to deslike imo :P

As far as characters go, I look at it like this: The anime created the characters, and the manga fleshed them out, showing sides of them we wouldn't normally have a chance to see (I know, the manga came out first, but... still).
The purpose of writing is to inflate weak ideas, obscure poor reasoning, and inhibit clarity. With a little practice, writing can be an intimidating and impenetrable fog!

Fleshing it out...
I agree, they handled Kaji a lot better.
And I still can't comment on the whole Kaouru killed a cat thing since I'm waiting for the english release, but I think I'll probably like the manga version of him better! :)
I also think the manga seems to take some of the anime's "mistakes" and fix them.
Shinji's clothes in the plug rather then the plug suit, how they subdued eva-01, etc.
The manga seems to flesh out whatever the anime missed.
As I've always said, they compliment eachother.

I like the manga a lot.
I like it so much that It's getting hard for me to decide which I like better!
I'm a huge Rei fan, so that gives me more incentive to like the manga.
I'm also a big Kaworu fan, so I like the fact he is introduced earlier in the manga.
 But killing the poor neko
I love manga, but, I like the anime...cuz I don't have to read it
I love to read, but the manga doesn't really do the EVA's motion justice.
I think I'm just rambling here.
Gomen

What I like:
You get to see Eva a bit more from Shinji's POV
You get to see more of Kaworu
Sadamoto's art
The characters seem a bit less isolated from each other.
Shinji almost punched Gendo
Kaworu seems to have more of a personality
What I don't like:
It's not finished yet.
Toji's death
Some parts of it are a little cheesy (EX: Asuka beating those kids up)
Lack of interaction between Asuka and Shinji

I can only take so much retarded.

I agree on some points
I have too much anime, yet it's not enough. Anime Addict, if it were a drug; I'd be dead.

You thought that was cheesy!?
Some parts of it are a little cheesy (EX: Asuka beating those kids up)
You thought that was cheesy?
I mean yeah, it was, but there are just as many (and more) cheesy circumstances in the anime!
Not that that's bad, a little cheese goes down well with enough well done meat.
I understand what a turn off Touji's death is too.
But in the anime, we only see him once after the battle and he's lost his leg, I read somewhere that he would be confined to bed most of his life for mental trauma, of course that is probably just one of those falsified rumours.
Back to my point, it kinda felt like he died in the anime regardless.
Sad ending for him either way.
