I feel somehow vaguely disappointed. So Shinji is in despair become some MPEs are nibbling on Asuka, and oh, the lance comes out of nowhere again except this time it's after Shinji.
It doesn't exactly appear for no reason. I'm not kanji literate, but it appears it was beckoned back to Earth when Shinji breached the 250% synch threshold and went fairy wings on everyone. I could be wrong on that part, so I'll include the section that seems to state it.
...And in this chapter, the MPEs were actually nibbling on him. Asuka was just playing damsel in distress.

Sure thing Asuka probably won't be raped but simply because now they're going to rape the World, I wonder what Sadamoto will do in the next chapter, I still hope that he'll avoid a half-copy of EoE's Instrumentality.

Thanks for the upload. Now that I read it, I am VERY HAPPY with the development. Shinji's anger prevented Asuka from undergoing the terrible fate when Eva-02 was impaled many times over and then eaten alive and torn to pieces. Shinji would not have been able to tell what will happen if he resists. He only KNEW he WANTED to save Asuka, and that is ALL THAT COUNTS. Any rape of the world that happens afterwards is out of his control -- anyway, MPE would take Eva-01 one way or another with or without Shinji's fighting. This time the difference is they do it without harming Asuka. Did I say it is ALL THAT COUNTS?? And in this chapter it seems that Seele was not too happy with Shinji still staying inside, alive, while the MPE's are starting the rite with Eva-01, but they thought it was not going to be a problem anyway. My guess is things will not turn out to be no problem as Seele think in the subsequent chapter. Yes, this chapter is what I expected and it turned out to be really good.

Well I don't see there being a "kitchen" scene like there was in the movie since he and Asuka seem to have overcome their grievances with each other this time. I think since he gave Asuka a way out this time he's going to do something similar for Rei. I'm guessing she might betray Gendo in a more overt way, considering Sadamoto has painted Gendo as being even less sympathetic in this version ("Look son, I don't care at all about you, sorry. Now watch me block these bullets.").
I foresee Rei giving a Big Speech to Gendo about family and love or whatever in front of Lilith while turning the tables on him.

Sure thing, but it was already evident in the precedent chapters that he's better than his EoE counterpart. Anyway, I was expecting something more than Shinji "roaring" aimlessly, hopefully the next chapter(s) could change something in this regard (unless Rei will be the one to do something, eventually...).
A major mystery about Sadamoto-sensei is...what does he *do* all the time? I mean, professionally, as an artist. It may simply be that the answer is "as little as possible"--that frankly, he'd rather be riding his mountain bike or tinkering with his Alfa Romeo. Or, that like Masamune Shirow, he has more fun doing paintings and illustrations than manga (but Shirow seems to turn out a lot more of these than Sadamoto). One possible answer is that Sadamoto doesn't feel the enthusiasm that he once did--remember at the end of DER MOND, when he comments that he felt he didn't grow any artistically over the EVANGELION period.
I had thought to ask him about this when he visited FanimeCon in 2003, but we were all just so happy to see him there, y'know?
quick question exactly how many year has sadamoto been working on the manga? I know it was suppose to be kind of like advertising for the show but isn't it overkill by now.
as for chapter eighty six the RAGE factor was cool be it a little Predictable, just wish asuka had put up more of a fight.
off topic: I had heard that sadamoto was going to work on a new manga,does anybody know if this is true?

He started Eva manga from November 1994, before even the TV series of Evangelion started !!

As far as sadamoto's other manga the rumor was along the line it being his interpretation of the rebuild series, but seeing as he takes so long for just the eva manga now I severely doubt it

Part of it is the fact that not only he did the character designs for .Hack and those three short manga symbv mentioned, he also did design work for other Gainax shows such as FLCL and Diebuster. More recently he's been doing character design and some animation work for NME. The other part of it is that he is really slow about doing things.

well hopefully he finishes before to long. i knew he did artwork for both flcl and NME but not diebuster thanks for the info!

He didn't release the 2nd stage until the series itself was nearly finished.
His *grace periods* have widen exponentially since.
The gap between the latest two was nearly three years. Neon Genesis Evangelion: Campus Apocalypse finished its entire run in that period.

really that long to release the second stage that's one heck of a *grace period*,but after waiting a year for 85 stage I can get an idea for the waiting periods involved.

^ @Mr. Tines Point taken,and seeing as we haven't been through the best part of the EoE scenario in the manga, it just seems that sadamoto is dragging it out as long as he can, I'm still waiting for mari to make a cameo appearance seeing as he fit in shinji's A.T Field arm.
