Evangelion Home Video Database: COMPLETED!

As some of you might know, I've been working on a complete database (with pictures) of all Japanese and North American home video releases of Evangelion. It's finally finished! Check it out here:

http://svenge.pcriot.com/

I tested it with Firefox 5 and IE8, and since the tools I used significantly predate both browsers, there shouldn't be any compatibility issues. Let me know what you think!

I use Firefox 5 and it works perfectly fine. I do not remember enough details to comment on the data accuracy but I love the neat layout without cluttering graphics or effects. And graphic images for each BD/DVD/LD/VHS are helpful (having VHS and LD information is cool). I also love the idea of FAQ with purchase information. Kudos for a very great job you have done for the fandom!!

EDIT: It would be nice to have the actual Japanese text for the episode list...
I never thought I would come back to Evangelion after EoE,
But I discovered Re-Take (or it found me?) and
now here I am.

I considered that, but since most people (myself included) can't read Japanese unaided, and some people's computers and/or browsers can't handle Japanese script, I decided to go with the romanization instead. Thanks for the input, though :)

It's quite interesting. I'll look at it better later because I'm short of time now.
Anyway, from a merely technical point of view ( note that this an advice rather than a criticism  ), you should have avoided frames. I'd recommend you using CSS instead, to create that kind of "navigation bar".
Also, if you plan to put the Japanese titles as symbv suggested, be careful with the encoding declarations of the document.
Use the W3C validator as much as you can because is one of the web developers' best friends.
Anyway, it's a very good job. Well done!

If I had any idea how to do anything more refined than frames, I would've. I'll level with you and list the programs I used to make this site:

Microsoft Word 2000 (to create each individual page except the left naviagational panel)
Notepad (to make the rudimentary frame system and modify a couple hyperlinks to open in a new window; the raw HTML code I typed in based off of some "for dummies" tutorial website).

I have no illusions regarding my site; it is crudely made and not terribly elegant. However, it works and doesn't get in the way of the data presentation. Considering that I hadn't made a webpage in 10+ years, I'm just glad that it functions properly. But thanks for the advice, I know you had good intentions :)

The site is okay on Chrome, and speaking of editing tools, get Notepad++, which is a freeware ASCII editor with a punch.

One thing I noticed is that you don't mention that the original release of Platinum volume 1 was missing dialogue and that you could request a replacement disc:

I'm not sure an exchange is possible anymore, considering what's happened to ADV Films. Still, it's something worth adding to the database; I've updated it as such.

Yeah, I'm aware. Just wanted to point out to you that technically, like with the original DVD release, there exist two versions of volume 1.

If it helps, I found a thread on Mania (formerly AnimeOnDVD) that might be helpful.

http://www.mania.com/aodvb/archive/index.php/t-55466.html

Good work on this, dude.

The difference is not nearly as severe, especially for right-thinking sub-watchers. :) I'd classify the Platinum V1 situation as merely fixing a glitch as compared to the pre-Platinum V1 and its remastering, which was essentially a new product (as evidenced by ADV selling the empty Perfect Edition box w/ the remastered V1 via TRSI for those who bought all 8 singles.)

Technically, they fractured and rebranded into several smaller companies that don't really do a whole lot in the grander scheme of things.

ADV's website still has the press release which explains the break up.

http://www.advfilms.com/

Not knowing a whole lot about business, it comes off as reincorporating to shed debt, but they've repeatedly stated that they are NOT the same company anymore.

I always thought they just turned into Sentai. But Section 23 Films? REALLY ADV!? Why don't you just name your company 'We Liquidated Our Debt Through Restructuring Films', or next time you go bankrupt you can just reform as 'Chapter 11 Films'.

Yay, now I don't have to refer to this site anymore for LD information!

Seriously though, good job, it's great to have resources like this on hand. But I think a banner or some kind of background image would be a nice tough. (In Chrome, it's an all white background.)

^ It is white background on Firefox too, but I really like it plain there.

The source code makes me twitch a little.

Yes, I'm sure the source code is grade-A rubbish. That's what I get for using a word processor that's several-versions obsolete to make webpages. However, the white background was a deliberate choice.

I've never cared for fancy backgrounds and/or white text on black, so I decided to have plain text with nothing distracting from it. That, and it's less work to do it that way. I've already proved that I'm not a competent webmaster anyhow :)

Ah, that's fine. A background image would probably be distracting since there are small images on different pages anyway.

And looking at your website, Eva really wasn't re-released (in Japan, at least, especially when compared to the USA releases!) as often as I thought. Kind of interesting.

I've already proved that I'm not a competent webmaster anyhow :)

I've been attempting to make an Eva site of my own for a fan-project of mine, so I know how this goes.

Edit: I just noticed that the Renewal Feature Films UMD (included with the Eva2 game) isn't mentioned anywhere. It was referred to as the Decade Box Set. I happen to own it, not that I own a Japanese-PSP to play UMD movies of course. (PSP UMD games are region-free, UMD movies are not.)
