Actually, I own a laserdisc player (along with the beautiful Japanese Evangelion movie box set [catalog #KILA-9401]). Of course, I acquired both the player and discs this year, so it's not like I was collecting those Evangelion releases when they first came out...

Updated with Svenge's info.
http://www.mediafire.com/?cc6f53mco5dy88x

A few questions to go please:
1 was "Death (true)" ever released in English?
2 was "Death (true)2" ever released in English?
3 which episode did ADV switch from the VHS masters to the OA masters for the VHS release?
4 did ADV ever go back and release the VHS masters for the episodes which were originally released using OA masters?
5 do any of the platinum releases include Death, Rebirth or EoE?

Thanks.

The only version of Death ever released on home video [English, Japanese, or otherwise] is Death(True)². None of the Platinum releases include any of the movies. As for the when VHS switchover happened, I don't know, but ADV never did do a re-release on VHS for anything that was put out w/ OA masters...

Since it's been a month with nothing happening, I decided to put my compilation of US home video releases onto a crudely formatted page on the EvaWiki...

I keep forgetting to bring this up. I'll ask EvaMonkey why he has that page locked the next time I see him online.

Just wanted to state for the record that Death (true)2 is what was on Manga Entertainment's release. I've played the two side by side, they are exactly the same except for one detail. In the Manga release, Adam's wings were a brilliant white. In my Japanese DTS DVD, the wings are a pale shade of yellow. That was the only difference I could tell.

Thanks everyone for the info. Here is the updated diagram thingy.

I reckon it's "finished" now. Happy to add it to the wiki page, if people think it's useful.

OK, now that it's been unlocked, I've filled in the key details as the structure already in place allows. I guess it doesn't have to be quite as in-depth as the Japanese Video Releases page since the US release data is much easier for the average person to find since it's in English, after all :)

That's probably because the video on Manga's release is shot to hell :)

I think it's fine to add the details under "Description", maybe in a table like the Japanese release page.

It is, don't get me wrong, the DVD has issues, but it doesn't account for such a specific, localized color change. I could see some graying, or color bleeding, but this isn't anything like that. I HIGHLY doubt that Manga changed the color. It's most likely that Gainax changed the color for the Renewal version.

The page he set up contained individual releases and UPC codes. But the N.A. Video Releases page just has the entirety of a set of releases and a short description.

As much as I hate to admit it, I don't know how to make good-looking tables in wiki format. I can modify existing ones with a lot of guess-work, but if you look at the history of the Japanese releases page, Ath was the one who actually created the format and the tables. I just managed to extend them with a lot of trial and error. When I made the (rightfully deleted) US releases page from scratch, I used a .csv -> wiki translator webpage, with ugly results.

Sorry if I'm a little late to this discussion, the work I did on the Japanese releases tables was basically a huge hack. I was trying to reproduce the layout of the Track listing Wikipedia template but without access to the CSS files of the Wiki I just dumped an html table with inline styles for each row. I'm not surprised that someone finds that hard to understand and edit...

I'm still not an expert on Mediawiki and its most obscure tricks, but with a bit of help from someone who knows more about the Wiki we could probably create a new table template that looks actually decent (those huge tables just scream for a nicer layout!)

Wait a sec... I thought death (true)2 was death with the DC stuff pruned out. It's been forever since I've seen it, but I know some of that was still in the version I saw, dubbed.

EDIT:

It seems wikipedia agrees with my recollection, stating that (true)2 is only in the revival box, not the manga US release.

Death (true) has the DC stuff removed (or most of it), the rip of true^2 that I have from Renewal definitely has DC stuff in it.

There's a revival box?

I can verify that Death on the Manga Entertainment is the same thing as what is stated to be Death(true)2. I played Death(true)2 from the DTS Edition and the Death on Manga's DVD right next to each other the other day. They were identical except Adam's wings were a different color.

Sorry, I meant the revival of evangelion that is in the renewal box. Yeah.

Damn it Anno, use less confusing names for this stuff! :fistshake:
