Has anyone seen Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne? I'm considering picking up the BD but I'm not so sure because of all of the blood and gore everyone says is in it. Does the story outweigh the violence? Can anyone review this?

The story was interesting enough, I guess. The plot is a little inconsistent, even for just 6 episodes. Like I mentioned earlier, the violence is mostly implied as opposed to graphic (you see the tools and the blood but not the deed). Some of it is a little cringe inducing and there's some nudity. I never thought it was worth a purchase though.

I found it immensely dull, and found better things to do with my time (like going F5 on /a/) partway through the 2nd episode when they were doing the vodka/water skit again. The torture porn was meh -- not enough to make me cringe (unlike say Texhnolyze episode 2). From what I saw and discussion I've seen since, it, like Kannazuki no Miko, is one of those series that's only worth watching for the lesbians. Which isn't enough to make it worth watching.

Then I'll put in on the back burner, thank you. I'm all excited about getting a Blu-ray player and there's hardly any anime in the US on BD. Can't wait for Chobits in the spring though.

It's a great series (or at least the first half is), but I wouldn't really recommend it if you're looking for a comedy.

Kaiji?? Comedy?? Hah...? Unless you are talking about some very dark and cruel humor...

Taken from a blog:
Kaiji - The entire premise of the show revolves around this. Over the course of the show the main character bets his freedom, his life, and various body parts, in order to win money. These fingers are being bet on a game of drawing lots from a tissue box!

I think dark doom needs to specify what kind of comedy he wants -- Some comedy made me laugh a lot but it was hated by some (Seitokai-Yakuin-Domo came to mind). Comedy depends on cultural and character sensitivities you know...

Kaiji was a half-meant joke, lol.

Watching the first episode of Shin Getter Robo (had to take a leak) here, damn this is awesome.

I take this as another comedy you recommend

By the way, I found these rules from the beginning of the thread "Anime Recommendations Thread (READ RULES BEFORE POSTING)"

IMPORTANT

Due to the nature of a recommendation thread to be just a bunch of people reciting all of their favorite anime, I'm imparting structure here.

You may only recommend ONE anime title. You must include a substinate explanation for why you liked it, what it is about, and why people should watch it. Also, if you can, include something in the way imagery or a link to another review or synopsis that you feel is pertinent.

Posts that fail to comply will be annihilated.

Yes, let's try to follow the ground rules here. If you're looking for thoughts on whether X anime is any good, MyAnimeList is probably the place you want to go.

Been a while since I made a recommendation:

Just finished the Keiichi Hara movie Colorful, based on a novel by Mori Eto, was released on DVD and BD last month. It's about a dead person's soul who sort of gets a "second chance" and comes back as a middle school kid that just got revived from an attempted suicide. And now this foreign soul is trying to cope and try to sort out this kid's screwed up life. A lot of it is pretty predictable, a bit cheesy and melodramatic, but it was quite enjoyable. In some places, the pacing feels a bit awkward but I don't think it really had a negative effect on the movie.
