I'm going to miss Kon, he was like the anime version of Christopher Nolan, before there was a Christopher Nolan.

Tonight calls for Millennium Actress.

He'll be missed. Paprika is one of my favourite pieces of art ever. Millennium Actress was quite touching. Perfect Blue was quite scary.

The world of anime needs more people like him, not less. He was an artist first and foremost.

Yeah this blows. I was looking forward to his next film, but I have no idea what's going to happen to it now.

And I already kinda posted this a few hours ago in the Celeb RIP thread...

This is fucking depressing the hell out of me. Perfect Blue was the first anime film I ever watched and Satoshi has for a long time been an inspiration on any of my ideas. This also makes me worry about my other idols. How hard is it going to be when Hideaki Anno dies?

One of the greatest filmmakers on Earth died today. This is truly heartbreaking news cause he's such a young (47) talent.

http://toppayingideas.com/blog/2010/08/ ... at-age-47/

What will happen to his final film "The Dreaming Machine" is uncertain now but that's not really what matters. His body of work may not be large but it's overall artistic strength and unity is astounding.

Over the next week I intend to honor him by watching his entire body of work.

Nevertheless, you've inspired me to rewatch his stuff as well. I'm happy to say I've got his stuff in my physical DVD collection.

I said this in the other thread, but dammit, this is worth repeating. I am seriously bummed over this. Most celebrity deaths don't phase me, but this sucks. Paprika was one of my favorite movies of all time, and Satoshi Kon was one of my favorite directors.

In tribute, I am seriously going to dedicate the next thirty days to rewatching everything he's ever done, and giving a proper review on my blog for each.

So sad... ;_;

Wow, I'm completely floored by this. Kon was one of my favorite anime directors. I'm still hoping it's just a rumor, but that seems unlikely at this point.

Terrible news. May he rest in peace and may his family and friends pull though his passing.

Out of the well-known directors known by other people, besides anime, Satoshi Kon was my favorite. I loved his psychological stories and the animation that he did.

I'll miss him.

This is really disappointing. Why is it that talented directors like Kon die, and the fuckos that make shit like K-ON and Lucky Star live on and on?

Here's my personal ranking of Kon's work:
1.) Paranoia Agent
2.) Paprika
3.) Tokyo Godfathers
4.) Perfect Blue
5.) Millennium Actress

-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity

They feed off the bullshit fan praise. It expands their lifespan ten fold.
