Ok, i know she was been demoted to a secondary, more like an extra in the rebuild, specially 2.0 still... there is this scene where we can see her get of the plane/helicopter...aircraft with shades and a white hat... which sexy and beautiful as it is, to my point of view is totally unnecessary. They could have spent those minutes actually developing the character.
What do you think?

I think it's not a big deal and it's only a very, very short scene.

Minutes? That scene was like, three seconds long. I don't think that anything meaningful could have been added to her character in such a short time.

And yeah, Ritsuko has been pretty much nulled as a character. So far, Rebuild is completely Shinji-centric (with Rei being the lead female, the pilots being the core focus, and Misato+Gendo being the most prominent adults), so every character that isn't closely linked to him gets utterly shafted (Hikari, Fuyutski, and Kaji's presence has also been severely cut back).

In fact, i think i have spotted a clue in 2.0 that likely indicates that the Gendo/Ritsuko relationship is most likely nonexistent in Rebuild:

Episode 9 of NGE wrote:
*Kaji sneaks up on Ritsuko*

Kaji: You've lost wieght.

Ritsuko: Is that so?

Kaji: You're in a sad sort of love.

Ritsuko: And how do you know that?

Kaji: Because those with a mole along the path of tears are destined to
live a life full of them.

Whereas in Rebuild, the discussion goes like this:
2.0 wrote:

Kaji: You've lost weight.

Ritsuko: Actually i gained 1530 grams.

And poof, no allusions to a "sad love". Dr. Akagi has been mercilessly sacrificed on the altar of streamlining the story. I wouldn't be surprised if the Naoko/Magi/Rei I's death story was completely left out of the following installments.

At least 1.11 restored the swimsuit scene.

I noticed the whole "Actually i gained..." thing too.
But... on 1.0 she does mention "men nowadays don't seem very interested in me either" (or at least that's what my subs say) just after Misato comments on how Commander Ikari seems to speak only to Rei.
And.. she is "oh so worried" when Unit 00 goes berserk and Gendo is almost hurt.
And... there is something about the hole "how was Rei? u know since you went to the hospital and all..." conversation that just shouts JEALOUSY to me. But I might be crazy.
So I really do hope they don't trim the whole affair thing. Because, putting the whole "I am in love with Ritsuko" thing i believe she is a very interesting character and crucial to the whole evangelion project.

PD Did anyone else notices how she has her own examination room and even wears a stethoscope, puts a twist in the whole Dr. Akagi thing right? jeje

There's a possible hint in 1.0 that Ritsuko and Gendo are still getting it on. In the bar scene with Misato when she specifically mentions Shinji is staying in Tokyo-3 for Gendo (their first mention of him in the scene I think) Anno pulls off a sudden quick insert of Ritsuko's cigarette ashing.

It's just a filmic trick that could be read into.

Regardless, I don't mind that Ritsuko has been turned into a side character in Rebuild. She is one of my favorite aspects of NGE but this isn't NGE and I feel like we're still getting a good amount of time with her as a character.
When Rebuild was announced it was said to be strictly pilot heavy and to be honest I had images of Misato, Gendo, Ritsuko, and Kaji being almost completely written out of the story. Thankfully that hasn't been the case so far. It's just that Rebuild is telling a different story in a shorter amount of time and Ritsuko (and Fuyutsuki for that matter) aren't key components of that story.

Misato is still being given a great deal of character moments and has a presence in this franchise (Eva 1.0 was really the story of Misato and Shinji). Gendo feels as if he has a greater presence in this franchise but it may be because his scenes are now closer together (and that also makes sense since Eva 2.0 is really the story of Shinji failing to connect with his father, hence You Can Not Advance). And I got to say, I was surprised how much screentime Kaji was given in 2.0 since I honestly figured the man could've been given 5 or 10 lines and little more.

Ritsuko just happens to have very little to do emotionally or narratively with who Shinji is and that should be the focus or Rebuild. SHINJI and his relations. NGE had 26 episodes to tell the story of everyone at NERV and that meant such embellishments as the history of Nerv, Ritsuko's issues with her mother and her own failings, and even Asuka's backstory. Rebuild doesn't have that so it's not necessary.

I love Ritsuko the character and while I would love to see more Ritsuko moments in the franchise that's really just me being a fan of the character. She has a role to play in Rebuild but it's not much of an integral emotional role. I don't feel the Ritsuko character is an empty vessel in Rebuild and I'm content with that.

i personally think she'd be a lot more interesting than she was in the series if it turns out she's so involved with gendo's scenario without the affair (or any sort of feelings for gendo) being a motivation. wonder if i'm the only one who thinks that way...?

who knows, maybe she'll get more airtime in 3.0. we may see more of her if she's leading the effort to get shinji and rei unstuck from the eva-01's core, sort of like with shinji and leliel.

But then, what other motivation could she have to get so deeply involved in something so (in lack of a better word) weird??

I do hope she get's more time in 3.0 'cause she hasn't made anything so magnificent as the whole defeating an angel using the MAGI.

I think it's too far along and too much to do to give her much screentime outside of the expositionbot she has been thus far. IMO if she was going to be a major player in rebuild she would have had been given something more to do in 1.0 and 2.0 but she wasn't so don't get your hopes up for something much else other than "WTF happened Ritsuko?" in 3.0 and 4.0.

i have no clue, but it's precisely that mystery that would make her even more interesting to me.
