This movie has nothing to do with Evangelion. And it is not in anyway, I can think of, connected to Gainax. But you must see it! It is an amazing movie. To sum up what I thought of Donnie Darko: It leads you on a philosophical mind-fuck of Eva proportions!

Donnie Darko is definitely an underappreciated movie. It is one of those movies where you question your perception of reality. and it also deals heavily with one's fate and purpose in life.

It doesn't really share very many of the same elements as Evangelion, but it is definitely a movie Eva fans will enjoy and appreciate, especially if you loved End of Evangelion from a sociological/psychological/philosophical perspective.

I agree, definatly an excellent movie that Eva fans would probably enjoy.
Yea and God said to Abraham, "You will kill your son Issac." And Abraham said, "I can't hear you, you'll have to speak into the microphone." And God said, "Oh I'm sorry, Is this better? Check, check, check... Jerry, pull the high end out, I'm still getting some hiss back here."

This movie sucked. How dare you compare it to Evangelion! Contrary to popular belief; there is a difference between a 'mind fuck' and an 'acid trip'.

Dave, its a fair comparison to make, both Eva and Donnie Darko challenge one's perception of things. You label Eva as a mind fuck and Donnie Darko as an acid trip. If anything, I think Donnie Darko has a more cohesive plot and concept than Eva. For that it is easier to grasp and analysize, but just complex enough to ponder and question.

It is definitlely an Eva fan's movie.

Wow Dave, you make a good arguement. How about you explain your blasphemous opinion?!

The movie is fucking incomprehensible until you read "The philosophy of time travel", and then you go "oooooh, right."

I might want to watch this movie...
But then, I'd need to re-pay back the company, if you know what I mean.
Heh.

Donnie Darko is just a really well-composed piece of cinema, and I really want to see the Director's Cut that came out a few months ago.

That being said, my impression is that, unlike Eva, there seems to be less deep meaning in the film upon repeated watchings.
