When I first watched the series 3 or 4 years ago I watched the dubbed version. It was quite a pain after getting used to EOE in Japanese which at that time I sawlike 10 times an hour. (Yup. ive seen End before seeing the actuall show. lol)
I decided to get the series from the net and watched it again at november. Wow, it was so much better! It feld more natural with the Intro and the music which allways felt very Japanese to me.
A couple of days ago I saw Asuka's fight between the MP Units in English, and I honestly hated it. Seriously, that girl can't scream right. Asuka's Japanese voice actor is superior in every way. Same goes for Shinji's voice actor.

Anyway, I prefer the original Japanese version.

I can't get Tiffany Grant cosplaying as Asuka out of my head whenever I watch the dub. Some of the voice work, especially in EoE, is cheesy and lackluster.

oh? she speaks fluent german?

...I like the dub... the first half of the series can be cringey at times but the second half i think they really find their feet with the characters and by EoE their perfect.

You have to admit, that in EoE, some of the voice work is horrendous. Not so much from the main cast that actually stayed for this dubbing; a lot of the crappiness is from the new actors hired to play characters. Black Hyuga? C'mon, seriously?

No i dont have to admit anything... I liked keith burgess as Hyuga. It never even occured to me he "sounded black" until i heard the term black hyuga. I liked his take, it was spunky.

My only problem with EoE is the squishy sounds but thats not a voice acting problem...

I know that. But its also cool to see what they cut out. Not to mention, sometimes people mess with my PS3 settings and mess with the audio. If the sound comes from the right speaker only, I tend to have a hard time hearing it so I have the subtitles on in case the settings are screwed up.

I have to say I like everyone's dub voice better, except Kaworu and Rei. Of course, on Kaworu's end, that's probably just because nobody can say his name right.
"...Kuh-WOAH-ru Nah-GESE-uh..."
It hurts just to hear that.

I like Shinji's voice better, Gendo's, Misato's, Asuka's... Touji and Kensuke's... well, just in Rebuild, really, but still something.

Rei's Japanese voice, however, cannot be topped. No improving on perfection. :)

And yeah, this is all just my opinion. Don't hurt me too bad.

I never liked the dub. A lot of the voices are either too caricaturish or too flat IMHO. (Tiffany Grant, as much as I generally dislike her take on Asuka for the most part, DOES have her moments, though.)

For me, sub all the way.

I almost always watch EoE subbed, I cannot stand the dub for the most part.

As for the series, both. But if you forced me to choose, subbed.

English is not my first language, and I'm not used to watch movies WITHOUT subs, so I prefer the sub version. Also, I like to hear the shows in their original languages.
Asuka's not a bitch, she just denies her innocence in a bitchy way.

Subs. Whenever I accidentally happen upon the dub I have extreme reactions to Shinji in particular.

Plus, I just love how Japanese Shinji sounds when he's angry.

I tend to watch both. I prefer the subs nowadays since I've gotten tired with the ever-revolving cast of VAs in each subsequent release (not to mention that my favorite VAs have been ditched). In particular I liked Aaron Krohn's Kaji impersonation, and I thought Tristan MacAvery did a wonderful job capturing Gendo. But apart from those two, much of the dub I'm rather ambivalent about.

Funnily enough, I don’t mind most of the EoE dub. I think I’m the minority, though.

I watch both dub and sub. I don’t really have a preference.

lol i'm a typical american idiot that prefers a dub in my animation

though actually I would rather watched a foreign live action movie subbed (watching "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" where everyone talks english is very awkward). I dunno, I guess when it comes to animation, the rules are more flexible for me

I've watched every foreign film in it's original languages; and I've still yet to see any reason to do any differently with foreign animation. It's hard to tell what a director is doing in a film of all you're hearing is what the English dub director thought of it.

That being said, I do enjoy the English dub of Cowboy Bebop the second time around. I think that's in part because the punctuated "I'm acting!" performances you get in the English dubs better suit the broad storytelling techniques of that show, and in part because the English dub is actually slightly unusually better than most English Anime dubs.

But that's about it.
