Soryu vs. Shikinami

What's the difference between Sohryu and Shikinami?

Honestly, I really didn't see any difference in the two...

Fanservice. Other than the fact that Shikinami is a captain, they are almost exactly the same.

Really?

From all the whining I've heard they were two different people that looked nothing alike.

The ONLY thing they have in common is, in fact, the way they look. I guess "eyepatch!Asuka" will take care of that.

Seriously, this thread is a shitstorm waiting to happen.

Yes, but those are different characters entirely. Shikinami is the same arrogant loudmouth expert pilot that Sohryu was.

Shikinami's social ineptitude and loneliness are emphasized a lot more than Soryu's; she doesn't even managae to befriend Hikari. That's the main difference, I think.

He shuddered a bit, remembering the somewhat creepy level of detail Kaji had gone into, while rubbing a watermelon in a disturbingly sexual way.

One is a nicer version of old school Asuka but can never replace her in our hearts.

Soryu= Popular Girl most everyone likes, somewhat outgoing, can be annoying, but is generaly lovealbe like most real girls.

Shikinami=Anti-social and an egotist with an eyepatch. Not much depth, made to please people who don't get Soryu.

IMO anyways 9_9

I actually thought Shikinami was a somewhat more realistic take on the same character. Soryu's the girl that everyone likes despite her freakish personality Shikinami's as isolated as you'd expect someone with her attitude and outlook on life to be.

But she still makes him something to eat and by doing this she becomes less like our Asuka and more like a Girlfriend of Steel character.

We only see the eye patch in the preview...
Shikinami seems just as sociable as Shoryu.

Hmm...not really.

1) She kicks away guys in the classroom in favor of a video game.
2) Hikari tries to befriend her and kinda(?) fails.

Ah right. I forgot about the part with Hikari. I don't really see much of a problem with her punching the guy though. I'd expect that from NGE Asuka as well.

Neither are especially likable people, Sohryu was just better at putting up a facade at school. In the end she was only able to make one friend, making her just about as socially successful as Shikinami.

The alterations they made to Rei were far more blatant.

She was a little more open then she was in the series, plus there was the bambi-eyes expression she had when Shinji gave her some food.

Still, it wasn't that jarring to me.

I mean, it isn't like they went and turned her into Yoko Littner...but I think the ShinjixRei vibe was a little too strong.
