Fonts and Typography of Evangelion

two questions:

1) what Japanese font is used by Gainax in Evangelion posters and such?

(example here: http://purlace.net/eva/card/bcmw1-sp2.jpg )

2) Evangelion came to have a unique typgraphical style, with tons of Japanese characters crammed into a space. I remember reading _somewhere_ about the designer who came up with this-- who was he, and where might i have read about him?

not sure if anyone cares, but i did some digging and found out both the designer, Norihiko Nezu, and what fonts he used.

Personally I've been wondering what font was used for the Tel-op as well as the posters and all that so this topic is helpful in that sense.

Don't know about the romaji, but the Japanese seems to be MS Mincho

It's very similar to Times New Roman I think.... except it doesnt have the bar on the A

It does look stylistically like it...but the font is more thicker than regular MS Mincho.

the only font I know of is the one used in the english artwork


however, that alone was a real bitch & a chore to obtain

If someone really wanted to they could take the time to take that and turn it into a working font. I'll look into it.

I'd suggest tightening up the W and M a bit, specifically by moving the two V sections closer together until the thinner overlapping stroke meets the thicker one at about the midpoint, then trim the rest of the thin one off.

I'd probably use thinner strokes for the legs on the K and R as well... they look overall really heavy at the moment.

I know I'm going to come off as incredibly stupid but wouldn't finding Micho Bold be, you know, easy? O_o

I believe you met Mincho, I can't find anything on Micho.
I really wish that font up there was a real font for use.
