I think it's the pose. Shinji has a rather confident and even a bit aggressive looking strut going there. He's all "Wasup, bitches?" while Asuka slyly sneaks a handful of buns... and Rei noticed.

The only diff. in appearance between series Rei and RINO is RINO's hair is a touch lighter, and that seems to vary based on the artist drawing her.

Yeah, but most images of RINO have her doing things that are uncharacteristic of Rei from the series. Here she's reading a book with an expression on her face that would not be out of place for series Rei.

I always thought eva@school Asuka had really odd looking hair. It's her usual color in front, but in back it seems to be all brown. What's with that?

Weird weird lighting + Rei's shadow probably. Orange is lit. Brown is penumbra. Black is umbra.
I'd definitely watch that.

I'd only watch that if it was an omake or an extra feature, not if it was the main series...

Actually, maybe the regular Eva storyline played out in that art style would be pretty interesting in a disturbing way.
