Newtype Question

I am thinking about ordering some of the back issues of Newtype that had stuff about Eva in them. Is there any more than the Jan 2004, July 2003, and April 2003 issues I should be looking at?

I have all three of those...

April 2003 - http://www.newtype-usa.com/issues/200304.asp

Content is a bit outdated in light of the content from the Platinum booklets.

July 2003 - http://www.newtype-usa.com/issues/200307.asp

Very good article on the history of Gainax some of which can be found HERE. I intend to get this finished.

January 2004 - http://www.newtype-usa.com/issues/200401.asp

This feature is generally a "Hey, Evangelion is awesome! Buy Evangelion!" article. Aside from some interesting factoids, its definitely not worth the cover price.

I would like to start an archive of Evangelion oriented articles from English language publications. However I would like to know that there's some interest, as well as some assistance available in transcripting.

Is Newtype worth the subscription price? Seems a little much for me. I've never read the magazine so I don't know.

Dude, of course there's interest. Why else would people go to a site that calls itself "the ultimate evangelion resource"?

Zillions of issues of Newtype (etc.) in Japanese with Evangelion articles, as just a little browsing on Yahoo! Auctions will demonstrate. :P But you probably didn't need me to tell you that.

I've felt ripped off every time I've broke down and bought it. Does that answer your question?

I decided to just get a subscription so I would only be paying about $7.50 an issue instead of the usual $13.00 I pay when I buy it at borders after I tell myself that I am not going to when I am looking for manga (by the way, Borders is still not carring Eva #9)

If they abandoned the DVD insert, they could probably sell subscriptions at a price that sane human beings could afford. It's rather interesting (read: stupid) that over the last couple of months, the articles are focusing more and more on series' from the dubbers' POV.

What anime-fan in his right mind would waste money on a magazine that doesn't come with anime? Not me that's for sure!

What's the big deal? They're only giving you one or two episodes from shows you may or may not end up buying anyway. (I've never been bowled over by anything they packaged.) Anime for the sake of anime is like food for the sake of chewing.
