Hmmmm....that's the problem with a live-action version of Evangelion--it can go in so many different directions. One of the weirdest ideas I had for it was to have the EVA sequences done with "man in a costume" effects like Ultraman (which looks like it might have influenced the design of the EVAs to some extent anyway), and stop-motion effects for the more unorthodox Angels.

Why, you ask, would I be going for a low-budget look? It's partially because it'd be interesting to throw a curveball to an audience expecting a big CGI epic, and partially because the original series is frankly quite surreal to begin with, and intentionally cheap effects could heighten that surrealism to no end...especially when you get to the later Angels and all the stuff with the S/2 engine--now that would be almost a horror movie if done entirely in live-action.

And, given the nature of the Evangelions themselves, this approach would be quite appropriate...
