I just watched some on youtube...yes, SPOILZ abound...

The way Light rebounded from the initial scare of seeing Ryuk was something...and that single-minded determination to go about killing people once he discovered that the thing worked was creepy. Not to mention killing L's stooge right on TV.

The idea of killing a criminal off first came off a rather childish impulse- that such a thing should be real in our world- and it turned out to be true. Most people are terrified of the supernatural. Not Light, he embraces it with ease. Justice itself seems strangely trivialized and childish...there's something about the feel of the Anime that I love (Title song included).

You watched some on YOUTUBE?

With all the places to directly download high-definition fansubs, the ability to download official subs from Viz for a small fee, and Veoh at the very least, you're watching this, a WIDESCREEN show with meticulous detial, on YOUTUBE?

I watched the first episode on Youtube, got five from a friend who loved it, and then started going deathnote.tv for mine.

Death Note is brilliant, I've only read the manga, but that was enough (seen about 8 episodes or so, but irregularly)
I've never enjoyed a series this much since Zeta Gundam, Captain Harlock, and, of course, Eva.
As for Monster, I'm slowly catching up with its brilliance as well.

Unfortunately, Death Note has pretty much gotten raped by all the fantards on deviantART...that ruined it for me.

But only L's superior reasoning skills can save-

Actually, nothing can save us from bad LXLight fanart.

You really don't know enough about him to make a judgment. But if we're going just off of appearances, he was a little too cliched for my tastes. He reminded me of Alfred from Batman.

It is a good show/manga.... if a bit irritating for the fans who insist on Raito.... Only saw the first few episodes

I had a Replica Death Note, which I used to keep sign-out records for my Universities Anime and Manga society.. We also have the Manga..

I really liked death note but i could help but get really pissed at Light at the start of the series. He could of avoided the entire confrontation with L just by trying not to kill him in the first place. L had no idea where he was other then that he was in Japan, all Light had to do was kill people in a varied area and L would of never been able to even start to look for him. Sure it was really bad ass the way he got out of the mess, but he could of easily avoided the mess from the very beginning.

I loved the series, i got this great chill when Light regained his memory in the chopper next to L it was the moment you had been waiting episodes for and they pulled it off so well. Near pissed me off, the movie ending sounds better but after watching 5 mins of the movies i got pissed off and refuse to watch it. I really wish Light had won in the end that would have been so cool and would of contrasted to the whole justice always wins thing which always happens on tv and in films.

I posted this in the Manga recs thread yesterday, but it's more appropriate here. My take on Death Note (manga):

Okay, I have to go against the grain here on Death Note. Let me give you a picture of my previous feelings for DN. You know the infamous opening scene of EoE? Pretend I'm Shinji, and a DN tankouban is lying in the hospital bed instead of Asuka. Yeah, that's how much I loved DN. But then I read volume 7, and then I read everything after. I won't spoil anything other than to say: garbage. The series jumped the shark halfway through, and the reason is, of course, money. Originally it was going to be a series that topped out at 6 volumes, but its explosive popularity meant Shonen Jump's editors put pressure on Ohba and Obata to keep it going (Dragon Ball/Z, anyone?). It was something that could have been great (and was, until the halfway point), but just became a watered-down parody of itself. Ugh. I get a bad taste in my mouth just thinking about it. That's the last time I invest in a series before it's all released.
I seek the ultimate Truth known to be found only in Hideaki Anno's wispy beard.
