29th December . . . I was hoping the DVD would be out for Christmas. That is a shame.

But sticking in a movie to show for so long, I don't know if by the end it would be makng much. I guess this also destroys our chance for a rip or something similar

It's staying in cinemas until December 29th?! That's crazy! :[

So, that's 120 days in the theatres. I wonder if someone will be hardcore enough to watch it once every day for all 120 days.

As a matter of fact, I know someone who can, and might do this. (He listened to Wagner's ring everyday for 5 month) I think he can cope with this. I have a feelin git will be a tad easy for him. (a fellow Wagnerite, and a convert to NGE)

I for one see a movie once and go home, saw the 3rd Harry Potter Film twice in theaters, but that wasn't by choice... 8)

120 days .... that really is quite bizarre. Is that usually how cinema releases work in Japan?

I'm jealous of Japan, man, I can't wait for it to arrive in Australia. :)

And I'm not surprised so many people have seen it, it was an already famous and well-known anime in the original series.

Eh, listening to music is different then going to see a film everyday (for one, it doesn't cost you anything, unless you're telling me he was going to concerts), I'm pretty sure I've done that myself with certain songs, this being one of them. 8)

120 days in theaters.

That's such a nice contradiction to the rushed theatrical run every movie gets here in the states it seems.

I remember spending time in Europe and a good movie could play at a few chosen locations for a couple months so there was no rush to go see anything. You could take your time and enjoy the film.

Now stuck in the US for a few years and I notice with movies its usually-

Week 1- # 1 at box office. Considered greatest movie ever by people online.
Week 2- Drops half theaters. Jokey criticism begins.

Week 3- Drops half of last weeks theaters. Already proclaimed dead.
Week 4- Gone from theaters. Forgotten.
Week 5- DVD release.

For good movies you add on a week or two.

*Sarcasm aside thats the way it feels. I remember when you had to WAIT for a DVD. Now you have to wait for the GOOD DVD which is like the Double or Triple Dip.

[/off-topic and maybe a split or something is in order?]

I think the biggest problems in the film industry today are:

1) There are too damn many movies being produced. While I am all for "democratizing" Hollywood, the chaff so-to-speak needs to be separated from the wheat.
2) The ever-growing profitability of DVD's and the ever-shrinking profitability of theaters.

P.S. For those wanting to discuss a matter with yours truly not pertaining to the general topic at hand, PM me. Please and thank you.

Maybe, maybe, maybe, in New York for 1 night, in December.
