Was there any indication why Anno became attracted to her? I'd be curious to know if it had anything to do with her role as Asuka.....

I think part of why the Asuka/Shinji relationship is so emphasised (as well as its breakdown) towards the end of the series is directly related to Anno's real life relationship. To put it in other words, I don't think Anno liked her becuase she was Asuka, I think that Asuka became such a pivitol characater _becuase_ Anno liked her.

Oh and she is also really cute Image

This just came to my attention in the "Ask John" forum, but apparently Anno is married

I did not know that...

Anno's married?

OH NO! He will never make a new dark anime Image(

LoL, just kiddin', that guy deserves some happy time.

Btw, is his wife connected to the anime scene?

If I could ask him five questions, they'd probably be:

1. What is the real reason for the alternate endings? (You never know, there could be more to it than a lack of satisfaction with the original Image )

2. Who were the souls in the MP Eva models? (I'd also like to know this one)

3. Were you actually rejected by Miyamura Yuuko before or during the creation of NGE? If so, did that have any effect on the story of NGE? (Yeah that could be considered two questions, I don't care Image)

4. Is there really no religious significance to the series, or did you just say that to get the Christian Coalition from harrasing you after it was released in the US. (I couldn't blame them if they did, some of those groups are rabid!)

5. Finally, did you have to make the movies so damn depressing?!? I mean, I know that not every story can have a happy ending but did you have to make it "IF I WAS OFF MY MEDICATION I MIGHT'VE SHOT MYSELF" depressing?!? (I had to get this one out of my system Image)

And that's about it. Though I would ask him to autograph a boxset for me Image Hmm, or better yet, I could steal a copy of renewal and have him sign it... Or I could hold the execs at ADV and Manga captive until the buy the rights to publish one in the US...yes...I think that might do...

Don't waste time with boxsets, have him sign each induvidual volume (if you use the VHS you get more signatures)

About EoE though, it's one of those very depressing but uplifting endings, well maybe not uplifting, but positive. I was thinking about it, and I had a perfect example of this kind of ending other than EoE, but I forgot it.

Maybe there is a positive message, but for me it always gets over-shadowed by the suffering they go through, especially Shinji and Asuka.

P'shaw! Suffering is one of the ways we grow. Unless you're either (A) dead or (B) incapable of learning from your unpleasant experiences.

Ah, how serendipitous. I was about to make a similar thread (although I don't feel like posting anything new now...).

Quiddity wrote:4. Do you now look back upon what you did in episode 18 and wish you hadn't done it considering it not only screwed you over later on, but other shows as well?

I know this user hasn't been around here in a while, but I also must ask what this means. From what I can gather, I suppose that the extreme violence caused some sort of backlash in the Japanese viewers, and Gainax decided to impose more strict censorship laws, and probably scaled back funding for Eva a bit...

But, I digress. I just want to know if anyone else understood this, because the question wasn't answered.
